Mobile Suit Gundam Wing (Kidō Senki Gundam Wing)

Some of you may know, I'm a real die hard Gundam fan. I have been one since I watched Mobile Fighter G Gundam since I was a kid. I even spent my time building models from God Gundam (From Kido Butōden G Gundam) to 00 Gundam (from Kido Senshi Gundam 00). After watching both seasons of Gundam 00, I really liked how they had the plot done and how they expanded on character development, not many anime series do that now a days. So I've heard that Gundam 00 was somewhat or very similar to one of its predecessor Gundam series, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing. I was skeptical at first about watching it at first because it would be like a repeat of watching Gundam 00. But I caved in because some of the Gundam games I have played (and again, I'm a die hard Gundam fan so I even go as far as to play the games no matter what system they're on!) Last weekend, I gave in and started watching the first 3 episodes of Gundam Wing and I was impressed that it did seem like 00 but in a different light. They even had codenames which 00 had, hell even some of the characters were the same. The characters whom I thought were very much identical were the protagonists of both series, Heero Yuy and Setsuna F. Seiei (of Gundam Wing and Gundam 00 respectively). Both very cold characters who're confused at first and yet in the end, still fight for what they believe is right, completing their missions at any cost.

But as far as the series goes so far, I'm pretty much enjoying it. I'm currently watching Episode 24 which means I'm at the halfway point through the series. There are 49 episodes in total.

The episode is called "The Gundam They Call Zero" which explains itself, introduces the new mobile suit, the Wing Zero.

Though some of the differences from Gundam 00 and Gundam Wing is that instead of 4 Gundam "Meisters", there are 5 pilots each from 5 different colonies but even so, its practically the same.

I hope to get up to episode 30 before I get to bed and watch the remaining 19 episodes, plus the movie "Endless Waltz" tomorrow before I go back to school on Monday. I'll keep you posted.

Glad to see you started Gundam Wing. :D

Unfortunately for me, I haven't started 00 yet. I've been a bit preoccupied.

Same here. I'm only watching it on the weekends, or when I know I have free time so that it will not distract me from my school work..

Look for it on irc.

I just started rewatching Zeta, in remastered Blu-Ray form.

The quality is actually sort of disappointing considering it's ~700MB per episode, and there are 50 episodes.

Speaking of Zeta...

I just bought this a few days ago. Have yet to find time to fix it, and I'm in need of new modelling gear.

PICT0051.JPG

@Shakraka: I guess it won't be hard then. I'll watch it after I finish Gundam Wing movie.

@Holaitsme: I'd rather not download from IRC cause my speed is usually very slow...plus I hardly go on IRC anyway so I'd rather download it from rapidshare

@seedtv: I'm planning to watch Zeta Gundam after I watch the original Gundam anime. I plan to watch all of the Gundam anime/movies that I've never seen, old or new. Including the Gundam Unicorn that comes out this winter. (But damn, the Zeta Gundam model looks like it will be bad ass. I may need to get that one when I get the money to.)

I'd also like to say is that I finished all 49 episodes of Gundam Wing! I really enjoyed the series a lot. It was a very deep and moving series till the bitter end and showed a lot of character development and I can see how each character reacts and feels from different points of views. The only complaint I have though is that it had a typical ending though.

Who didn't see Heero putting an end to the Libra battle ship using his Twin Buster Rifle.

I plan on watching the movie "Endless Waltz" tomorrow after I get home from school. Then after that, I'll download Mobile Suit Gundam! (I'm also playing Mobile Suit Gundam: Gundam vs Gundam now on my PSP. Like I said, super Gundam fanatic here! xD)

Of the Gundam series that I have watched:
Wing > SEED > 00 > Destiny

My Gundam days are behind me, but they were good times, enjoy them

Agreed.....except G Gundam > All >_>;

Im also happy to say that I was so bored since I woke up super early, so I went ahead and watched Endless Waltz! It was an ok movie, nothing to brag about but it was still good...next up Mobile Suit Gundam 0079!

How fast is your internet?
The distro bots are fast and I get around 200-380kb/s on my 3mb connection and you can just lurk since there's like 1300+ users on #news. Tbh, I hate rapidshare. It limits your downloads, is awfully slow (80-150kb/s,) and large files have to be split up and the limiting your download part interferes with this.

On a side note, since you're a huge gundam fan, is there any you'd recommend? I've only watched wing and seed (not including destiny, if you've watched this please tell me if it's worth watching).

Although I am obviously not the person you asked, I feel I should lend a hand. Now, before I go into your options, I must inform you that there are two different universes of the Mobile Suit Gundam series. There is the Universal Century series (follows the events of and after the One Year War between the Federation and Zeon; includes the original 1979 Mobile Suit Gundam) and then you have your Alternate Universes (has their own story line that's different from UC: includes Wing, SEED, 00, G Gundam, etc.).

Now, if you're looking to get into the original UC series, the best place to start off is with the original, 1979 Mobile Suit Gundam. Now, I warn you, if you do not mind QUALITY and late 70's style animation, then this is for you. As I said before, if you find 43 episodes of this to be a bit overbearing, then I suggest you check out the Mobile Suit Gundam trilogy movies (three movies which are condensed versions of the original Mobile Suit Gundam along with new animation). If you really want to get into the UC storyline, but can't bring yourself to watch the original, then I suggest you watch either The 08th MS Team or 0080 War in the Pocket, and see if you want to expand on the Universal Century time line some more. Giving you heads up, though, 0080 is pretty damn sad, and The 08th MS Team's ending was a bit dissappointing.

As for AU series, if you're looking for something ridiculous and over-the-top, has excellent English dubs, and for something just pure awesome with nothing to actually do with Gundam, then watch G Gundam. I must inform you that this is regarded as one of the greatest super robot series (yes, a super robot series, as opposed to the "real robot" genre Gundam is supposed to be) ever created, and is also one of my personal favorites, just beneath GaoGaiGar. If you're looking for something a bit more serious, then I'd suggest you watch the first season of Gundam 00. It has somewhat realistic politics, sexy mech designs (especially if you're into grunt units), and a decent story. If you get into it, watch the second season at your own risk. And that's it, really, for AU series.

Oh, and avoid Destiny unless you want to watch some of the worst writing and an emo whiny bitch as the main character until he gets replaced by Jesus Yamato. Shit sucks.

heh, Wing was one of the better series from gundam thats for sure. used to love wing and G, but the universe is simply too big, feels daunting trying to watch every series haha. but the list for me has to go

MS igloo > G > Wing > Turn-A > 00 > seed

Damn he basically answered it for me. lol. But I agree with him with all of this, and also stay away from Destiny. Too much whining and crying and all these unneccessary things...

Thanks for all of this . I'll probably start watching the G Gundam as I just read the plot and this seems like my type. I'll probably watch the original gundam after this as I don't mind QUALITY (except if it come with awesome physics and logic) or animation style as I'm not a graphix whore, I also think I watched the first three episodes of this one, although it's vague, the beginning starts with people evacuating and the main character finding/using a gundam at the military base his father works at, right? I don't know when I'll get around to doing this, though. I've got about 10+ anime series on my hdd that I've stalled and yet to finish, that plus I haven't really been damned enough to watch anything that's over 24 episodes.

Also, please forgive my ignorance on this, but is there any connection between all of the men who wear masks?

About Destiny, I probably won't watch it, I heard it sucked beforehand and you and raiyu have confirmed this. I also heard they brought dead characters back to life and most people who liked this seemed to like code geass R2.

G Gundam is absolutely brilliant. It has everything a guy would want.

Also MASTER ASIAA!!!!!!! NOOOOO!!!!

It's funny you ask this, but I will try to explain as best as I can. The original masked antagonist of the Gundam series is known as Char Aznable, a great rival of Amuro Ray and an excellent pilot. Now, he has to wear a mask for a reason I cannot explain as it will spoil his history which gets revealed later on in Mobile Suit Gundam. Anyways, after this original masked antagonist, other similar masked antagonists just happen to appear in various amount of Gundam series. We call those who follow this masked antagonism trend "Char clones," which is rather self-explanatory. Char clones that come to mind are Zechs from Wing, Rau La Creuset from SEED, MISTAH BUSHIDO from Gundam 00 and Full Frontal from Unicorn. Oh, I almost forgot I had this picture of all (I think) the Char clones (note the painfully obvious similarities):

Oh, and yep, Mobile Suit Gundam starts off with Amuro reading an instruction manual on how to operate the Gundam, and proceeds to rape the intruding Zakus.
