Intelligence and depression

Ok so I remember being depressed ever since I was about 6 years old, because my parents got divorced, my mother was even more temperamental back then and bc my elementary school teachers were extremely mean towards me and the fact that my classmates tended to make fun of me for no reason that I can remember.

And why do I mention intelligence in the title? Well, bc my family was (and is) always saying that i'm smart and I believe, but I always stop believing them every time I make a mistake or say something stupid.

And why is being stupid a big deal? Welp, because lets say being smart was the only part of my self esteem that was intact or something.

Don't let other people tell you you're stupid or worthless. Fuck bullies.

Self respect is a prerequisite for self esteem; always believe in yourself and others will too.
No one tells me i'm stupid per se, but they use other words that, while not synonims of "stupid", still make me feel stupid

Agree with Yankii, chin up, Qwerty! At least it's situational depression and not brain chemistry. I suffered THAT SHIT from 2000 - 2008, it was absolute hell.

Just be good to yourself and the rest of your AWESOMENESS will come out. Slowly, then more, then more and all of a sudden you're the most giving and important person to everyone around you, including people online that you'be befriended but haven't even met, like me! :)

My depression with years tends to wear off and then return tho, and this is like the second or third time it does.

Einstein had many failures before success ones that seem super intelligent really aren't and ones that do grind for that one "smart discovery."

"Einstein graduated from the renowned Swiss Polytechnic Institute at the age of 21, and he was struggling to find employment. To make matters worse, Einstein had a terrible reputation as a student."

So just because others want to make statements about intelligence levels you can always prove them wrong it's a balance situation. And he still died with the label of one of the smartest people on earth.

Bobby Fischer experienced several setbacks and failures throughout his chess career and personal life. These included missed opportunities for gold medals at the Chess Olympiads, a forfeited world championship title, and struggles with his mental health and personal relationships. He also faced criticism for his controversial views and actions, including his refusal to defend his title and his later anti-Semitic and anti-American statements.

Multiple sources suggest Bobby Fischer's IQ was exceptionally high, possibly around 180-187

Depression does not not discriminate. I'm thick as shit but not I'm depressed about that, it's everything else in life!

The best advice i received is not to let it control you. Don't give it life and it really is as simple as making the decision to not allow it to take over but the journey to that decision is our own path.

Depression is a predator. It hunts and feeds on your emotions and wants you to feel shit about everything and nothing. We have to face it rather than run from it and I know you'll get to the right place within yourself with the right conversations and never be afraid to reach out, even if it's just in here. You'll find your really not alone in this at all and we all need help along our path from time to time.

You’re not depressed because you’re smart, you’re depressed because you feel helpless and lack the motivation to improve your circumstances despite having the desire to do so. It makes sense when you mention the divorce because it’s a circumstance a child cannot change, no matter how “smart” it is. Fact of the matter is that you’ll feel better if you get your shit together and get good at something - anything, really. Mastery brings serenity. It will initially require a conscious effort, but you will become more motivated once repeated failure slowly turns into occasional success. The alternative is infinitely wallowing in self-loathing under the impression that you’re a ghost in a world that you are incapable of meaningfully changing to suit your needs.

I was born with depression A.D.H.D. autism O.D.D. social anxiety disorder so don't feel alone (my parents are also divorced :D)
