dropped ma phone in the toilet

last evening, there was a huge thunderstorm that lasted at least like two hours. during that time, we lost power so we had to us our multiple backup lanterns and such. Me and my sister had to go to the store to get stuff for the outage and when we got back, i had to go to the bathroom

while i was putting my phone down on our little rack before going, (we had no power and I needed a light source) it fell off into the toilet. i grabbed it immediately and put it in a bag with silica packets after i cleaned it off. hopefully the silica packets will soak up enough of the water to dry off my phone, but i'm going to leave it in for at least 7 days.

its not so much the phone that im worried about, it was like $50 bucks and im sure i can get a replacement (the +2 years of data on it though? irreplaceable). i just feel stupid over it. i know dropping your phone in the toilet happens to almost everyone but i still feel stupid.
but yeah that's about it. i won't be able to us my phone for at least 7 days, possibly earlier.
i leave this blog post with this.

Sorry, I have to ask:
Why do you need a phone when you have to go to the bathroom?

i know it happens to everyone but i still feel stupid.
What happens to everyone? Data loss or dropping phones into the toilet? To prevent the first one, I do my best. The latter one will certainly not happen to me.

On the pro side: If it was a recent phone and not many years old, chances are pretty good. Many devices are sealed more than they should (missing repairability). In such situations the adhesive and sealing come in handy.

Good luck!

i sometimes get bored in the toilet. only problem is that sometimes i spend a little too long in there

its a habit i have to break and (if my phone survives) i think it'll go towards breaking that
thank you!

My phone is advertised as "water resistant" and I have no idea what that means. Obviously I couldn't go diving with it or whatever, but would it survive a quick dunk? Shower water? No idea, so I just try to not get it wet at all

@banjo2 "so I just try to not get it wet at all"
Exactly this. As far as I understand the English words "water resistant" mean, a product shows at least some resistance against water getting inside. Sweat from jogging, a little rain or a short drop into water. Sadly marketing departments will often avoid to clarify how resistant.
If a product is marketed as water resistant and I nevertheless avoid it getting wet, chances are probably pretty good when it does get wet once.

Opposed to that is "water proof" which I understand as: Water has to stay out permanently even when submerged with a defined maximum pressure (the question is how floating water adds or movement/diving of the user adds forces to this).

I'll never forget the time a kid in my highschool English class took a while coming back to class from the bathroom and when he got back he said he dropped his phone in the toilet, so my teacher started mimicking the logistics of how he could possibly have done that.
Good times.

Anyway if it was clean (or relatively clean I guess...) water, just let it dry out for a week or two. The water probably won't kill it, trying to start it while it's wet inside will lol

Thank god mine backs up to one of my cloud accounts. I just don't remember which one. lol As I said about computer data, back up, back up, back up.

Phones these days can easily slip out of your pocket, since they're big and barely fit, i personally wear jeans that have long pockets and are tight, so it holds it in place, with akso being careful when bending, since that's when they usually slip. And if it fell out of your hand (if they were wet maybe?)..

For now, you belong to the elusive and exclusive circle of people who have drop their phone into the toilet.

Something whatever replied to it, then others have, bumping it up in to the most recent posts.

Anyway did the phone still work?

Also if you have 2+ years worth a data on there you have never backed up, you need to change that.

MegaSync Premium is worth it. Backs up any directories you'd like. Most people just do their DCIM folder, but I do a few others too.

@InsaneNutter oh yeah, its been a while since it's happened. Phone still works, everything's still there (a couple water spots on it, but not that much of a problem), but i'm thinking of upgrading soon, possibly around Christmas time. It was an older phone anyways, but the fact that it's been through with me for about 2 years is impressive in it's own right.
