My girlfriend and I bought our first *NEW* car!

We traded in our old dark gray 2013 Subaru Impreza towards a white 2021 Subaru Crosstrek.

Both cars pictured side by side:

We have never had a new car before, so this is really exciting for us! Our Impreza served us really well for over a year and a half, so we know this brand new car will be an incredible and dependable vehicle for us.

Subarus are nice. Did you know that the water box engine that they use is based off of the VW beetle engine, with water jackets around the cylinders? The Japanese tried unsuccessfully to copy the VW aircooled engine but they successfully came up with the engines that are in Subarus. This, to me, truly is the modern version of a Volkswagen.

@FAST6191 It's just nice owning something for once that somebody else hasn't fucked-up or messed with. There isn't a single used car out there that doesn't have problems of some kind. It's nice starting fresh with something nobody else has used. Our last Subaru is super reliable, so we wanted another one. We're paying more per month than we would like, but once I'm working again and we pay off the first year or so of interest, then I can refinance and get a lower monthly rate. Especially if we end up falling into large chunks of money like tax returns, we can throw it at the car as well without any penalty.

@Jayro My Volkswagen Jetta would have to disagree with you there in the "someone fucked with this" aspect of used car shopping.

Now, if only I had the car used in this game, and I lived somewhere with more tropical trees, and I wasn't a lonely boi atm:

All those new cars go on to be the troublesome used cars, and I have sat in enough stealerships seeing the issues they have with such things (to say nothing of the engineering choices as they get pulled apart) and watching recall notices and lawsuits to wonder at it.
Equally good used car can be a thing, though they tend to only be found by those that can chuck a spanner themselves.

Nice it may be but it is an expensive nice. To each their own in the end but just really not the path for me.

If you are getting a tax return you did it wrong. Best not to give your government an interest free loan.

Congrats!!!!

I don’t drive (yet!!) but going off how it was like for my mom to drive the same used beater car for 20 years, and how uneasy we’d feel about it not starting/axels breaking/it just being junk, having a new car really took away a lot of stress. I hope your car has that same worry-free exciting feeling for you too!!

Looks cool @Jayro! Very nice!
It's great driving a car and shite owning one!! The thing about any car is maintenance, I hope this one doesn't need any for a few years but your warranty should cover it in that time.

Except hitting a tree....

We hit a small deer in early September, which caused our hood, fender, and front lower bumper to all need replaced. No structural damages, just cosmetic ones, but after we got it back from the shop and a painful $500 deductible later, We realized the front end alignment was a bit off. And it needed an oil change, as well as new plugs and wires. All small things, and fairly affordable, especially the oil, plugs and wires could be done by me... But we just wanted new. Something a little higher off the ground, better fuel efficiency, and no dings in the doors.

Hmm not to hate on the Jetta but when Ford dropped the new Mustang GT's (new, when I was looking to buy a car that is) I just had to have one with a V8, can't get that in a VW passenger vehicle. Also my sister owns a Jetta and I can surely say that the quality of my interior is far superior to what's in her Jetta. I still wonder if there's a more premium interior trim for Jetta than what she has but maybe not.

My first choice for a while was a Jetta, glad I didn't make that choice. More expensive upkeep since it's a faux-German car and not nearly as fun to drive.

I can't stand a Jetta. Jettas are cramped pieces of shit. No love for Jettas over here.
