2007-08 were the best 2 years for gaming

Think about it. We got Madden 08, Super Mairo Galaxy, Super Paper Mairo, Smash Brawl and LittleBIGPlanet. Best 2 years ever.

na bro. Ima have to disagree. I'm gonna have to go with the golden age of gaming in the mid 90's. It was a time when games were complete when you bought them. Players did not care about frames/sec or resolution. Game developers did not just use a pre-made engine like unreal when a game was made. They built the engine just for them game. Each console was unique because they all had different hardware. The music had to be programed not just a simple mp3 playing. Each developer had their own style. You knew you were playing a Capcom game or a konami game. Games did not require internet to work(cept for some pc games). You could rent a game instead of buying it or play a friends game. All games were played on crts. So you did not even know what the resolution is and did not care. Is the game good or not. that's what mattered.

What do we get today? well ports, 20gb patches, beta versions, internet requirements same game released 6 times. The games are more realistic and look good and more action packed and longer. But seriously, Lazy fucks just use other pre-built game engines. The overall feeling of the game is the same because its the same engine. If you often get board of a new game quickly that's probably the reason why.

so you like buying a $60 game that requires a patch to play? If you think that's acceptable then thats that i suppose. Im not trolling you btw. Im just giving my honest opinion. I have lived through all those generations and have experienced the first hand. Im no im not saying your option sux. There was great games in 2007 and 2008.

Hmmm, I also disagree. I remember playing so much DS those days, but don't remember many historic games to be remember. I think the best years in gaming, talking ´bout innovation, quality, gameplay, fun factor, and many others; were 90s, mid ones to be exact. The era when we saw for first time 3d graphics being a new standard, but even like that 16 bit graphics still showing how far the imagination and capacity of a developer will get. Those were THE DAYS.

@Captain_N another good thing about that period (mid-to-late 90s) was that developers cared about modding community. Just think about Quake, so much custom maps, custom characters and so much fun. They encourage the community to mod their games and released all the tools needed.
Now instead... You have to pay for even a character costume..... That 's sad...

And... I'll never forget the afternoons spent playing local multiplayer games with a friend sitting next to you in the couch... So much fun..

People looking at the 90s as the "golden age of gaming" are setting themselves up to be disappointed.

Games were better when you would just get a game console that has no complicated operating system, no internal storage, no internet connection, you would just put a game cartridge or a disc into the console and you would just play it and it would just work
I just got my gamecube out today and it's so much nicer to have a simpler console like that compared to for example the Wii U and 3DS (my favorite console) where you have dumb internet connections, you often have to make an account and accept the license agreement of these dumb internet services, digitally bought games from the internet that you could lose access to at any time, too much important game data being stored on the console itself that's hard to just move to another console and of course too many in game purchases and updates for some games
On the gamecube I just put a disc in, turn the console on, wait a few seconds on the boot screen, play the game like I want to without ever having to rely on the big company's internet services and when I'm done I could take the memory card out, replace the entire console, put the card back in and keep playing all my games like nothing ever happened
The wii that you're mostly talking about here isn't so bad but it still had the complicated operating system, internal storage for game data, some internet services for the disc games and then you also have the wiiware digital games

Actually i stand corrected, the best year in human history was 2017 when we got such classics as Knack 2, Knack 2, Knack 2 and Knack 2.

But everyone forgets the year we got Dante from the Devil May Cry Series & Knuckles.
That's the best year in gaming. Also, don't forget that we get each year a FIFA game, and that's way better than anything else.
That and Minecraft and Fortnite and FIFA.

2013 was the worst year ever. Knack released, but only sold 3 copies as it was the worst game eva made.

For me it was the early 2000s. The Xbox and Nintendo GC were easily my favorite home consoles, with the Xbox barely edging out the GameCube. Super Mario Sunshine, F Zero GX, Starfox Adventure.. Halo, Fuzion Frenzy, Brute Force and Mechassault. The last generation before Day 1 patches, always online DRM checks, forced game installs and over the top UI. Yes, yes... The Ps2 was great, and I enjoyed playing Final Fantasy X, Killzone, Jak and Daxter and even Ratchet and Clank. Socom as well.

90's gaming redefined how we play as today. 3D gaming & graphic/computing technology in its infancy and even an attempt of VR were the most ambitious project-concept that nowadays are the most desirable gameplay/processing mechanics since late 90s till present.
Everyone can select his own favorite year of gaming tbh, but in history of gaming, the 90s were a giant step.

One's childhood years will always be looked upon with rose-tinted glasses.

I'd say the early 2000's was the best for yours truly, but not necessarily because of the games because I didn't own a PS2, and the GC, while fun, was mostly a Metroid Prime/Super Smash Bros. Melee machine (the former which I was kind of scared to play because I remember seeing the game over screen and it scaring the fuck out of yours truly considering I always viewed Samus as being invincible with a suit so awesome!) as much as it was when I could play games more easily with my brothers than nowadays, where everyone is married and all but one couple has kids (no, he isn't gay, they just aren't ready for it. Can you blame them given the situation in the world?).

Yeah, there's always multiplayer nowadays, but it's hard to pick and choose a game or even sometimes a thing to do. So much anime, movies, TV shows, games, etc. to watch that are good. I got into Samurai Champloo and finished it a month ago and there's still so much to watch!

I wouldn't have minded not working if I wasn't in debt atm, in which I'd have more time to do all of these things without having to worry about too much considering I'm still at my folks' place until 2021 from the way things are going in the world. Considering how much money I might have in the bank next month from the tax return, the possible (since I hear there's a lot of fuckery going about regarding it) Trumpbux, the vacation money I got from the lump sum check in addition to the last week I worked at Walmart, and all of the money that'll be pouring in from my current job will make it so that I could have 3/4 of my bills taken care of by the start of July, and the last one paid off at the start of August at the latest! ^_^

Yeah it’s all subjective unless you want to like, pull out a spreadsheet from metacritic and tally up each game over 90 or something.

That being said, I’d put my vote on 1997 or 2008. SOTN, fallout 1, persona 4, Valkyria chronicles, crash, star fox 64, Pokémon platinum...etc.
