...and I am still in shock. about 9 months ago I went for a vacation to a nearby town and met up some new friends. I had a very good time there as I just recently lost my job and it was so nice to have some companions.
A week ago or so, my friend was getting into coma and she passed away in 24 hours. Her sudden death shocked her friends (including me). As she was an orphan, a friend took care of belonging and found some notes. From her notes, it seems she has caught the classic symptoms of HIV (swelling of nodes, blisters, flu that never ends, etc) and was about to follow up for another medical appointment. However it seems too late, she caught a flu that turned into fever (or whatever) and quickly fell into a comatose. My friends were fundraising, and I was about to donate, it was reported she passed away.
It's a tragedy because HIV test is free and she could have a normal life with ARVs. Sometimes, ego clouds our judgement and we whisper a little lie "I know what I am doing, I probably will not get any HIV!". Unfortunately it's not the case. She did her HIV tests, but it seems she only used DIY kits, which may not be the best approach to check HIV status.
Her death quickly prompted me to do an HIV checkup myself.. The result was negative but my experience was negative because the clinic was affiliated with catholic church, I had a short lecture by a nun who's fear-mongering of my sexual life (I am a bisexual myself ) and she doesn't believe in condom. Sheesh, that's the probably the last time I am visiting that clinic and will look another clinic with non-judgmental staffs.
If you have an active sexual life in the past 6 months, please please please, love yourself and do an HIV checkup.
