My old plex hard drive died

Hello,
So yesterday, my old external hard drive i used for plex suddenly died
It was almost 6 years old and did good so far
But recently, i had trouble at writting stuff on it
Reading was perfectly fine though, until yesterday...
Yesterday, my mom wanted me to burn movies on bluray
So i tryed to move those from my slow external hard drive to my internal hard drive... and it died...
The files wouldnt move, my computer froze, and when i unplugged it, everything went fine
I replugged it, tryed to do something, and it froze again
I tryed many thing, and it always ended up freezing my computer
All data were lost...
2.5TB of Plex medias totally lost
I had to buy a new external hdd
200$, but this one is twice bigger
My former one was 3TB, this one is 6TB
It works fine, but i still have to redownload everything...
Plus, i mainly download from a semi private torrent tracker
So... it will hurt my ratio... a lot...
Luckily, i have like 3.6tb of upload and about 1.2tb of download, so i should be fine
Btw, im very aware of ratiomaster, i did use it long time ago on another tracker.

So far i downloaded few medias back, but im still far from getting my stuff back
Ill let my computer download what i queued during the night, hoping tomorrow ill have a couple of medias back
Plus, now that i have more space, ill probably download more hd stuff :)
I have a 120mbps download speed, but saw a promotion on my isp website
For 4$ extra per month, i can have a 400 mbps download speed, which is more than trice what i have now

*yamn* time to sleep and download...
Download and sleep...
Zzz...

How much media can one man really need?

I am a little shocked to see how much people have saved up.

Like, after you watch it once, why not delete it?

Three or two, man?! Lives depend on this!

All jokes aside, you really need to get in the habit of writing or calling people. I'm sure the warranty expired (unless you have optional coverage/lifetime warranty), but most companies want to have your money and they will do everything in their power to keep you happy.

Although, the only people who actually care about their company are the ones who make the big bucks......and they are the people who will make sure you're satisfied. Don't talk to peons who just want to end the call as quickly as possible.

Funny little slice: About two weeks ago, I bought a new coffee maker from Mr. Coffee (at a store). I opened the new one right next to the old one so it knows I replaced it for a younger model.
The shit didn't work. It brewed, but it was like, 15 minutes before I saw coffee.
I said, "Fuck the store--I'm going for the neck.", called the folks at Mr. Coffee, and two days ago, I got a brand-new Mr. Coffee.

For rewatches.

And why should i delete all my NCIS:LA Episodes if all can fit.

If i cant fit stuff, THEN i will delete something.

Btw, one 4tb drive is only used for torrents and backups of my pc.

I like to archive tv shows i like. No different then when i used to record with VHS. You should backup those show to good quality BD-r. I do that to backup my server drives. This way if the drive fails i have my Data on BD-r discs.

I can understand to some extent, but dang - that's a lot of shows.

Since they can be downloaded again it seems a little strange to hold onto them yourself.

The thing tho is that not everything is easily found again. The internet and things on it are taken for granted. Things can disappear as tho they never existed. Its better to rely on your own storage then a place on the web you cant control.

There are some old YouTube videos I really wish I had saved. I think obscure things are smart to save for sure.

Something with wide appeal is pretty safely found again.

Does it have to be an external drive? 6tb Drives are cheap. And they are the last size to not be filled with Helium. I dont trust the Gas filled drives. Helium is such a small molecule that the seal will not last as long as the mechanics in the drive.

O o f,

I feel that, not only did I wipe my plex media lately, yesterday I accidentally wiped 20gb of tv shows from it by accident... this is after my 2tb stops suddenly with no warning

I’ve had a couple of hdd failures over the last few years.

Thankfully the first hdd was backedup online and the most recent one was on my unraid server so I was able to rebuild the data (hopefully nothing was corrupted).

I really need to backup my drives... I ended up buying 2x2tb drives from a server surplus ebay seller. They've been trucking along for a year or so and their SMART data showed they had zero hours of up time, but I'm pretty sure SMART data can be reset. Anyway, I'm sitting at a combined available storage of 300gb. I use PseudoTV to make my own TV channels, but I'm worried I'll lose all my media sooner or later (600 movies and 102 TV Shows).

My HDDs are pretty stable after several years, and I have been making a habit of using USB HDDs to back up extremely vital info, a good habit to get into, just my two cents

I've been seeing a lot of people talk about 100gb BluRay discs for backup, but I can just imagine the write time for 4tb. I might have to pick up an easystore from bestbuy and shuck the drive for a backup drive.

lol, peoples tell me to backup my stuff, but it's an external HDD, THATS my backup :P
Also, how do you backup 3tb (now I have 6tb) without ruining your wallet?

You can get 8tb easystores when they go on sale for $130ish.. People shuck them and put the drives in their PC. Just check slickdeals or datahoarders
