My first shiny!

I've played pokemon for years, at least every gen.
Just unlucky maybe, but I've never gotten a real wild shiny. (poketracer helped in pearl, but still it's not the same as a real 1/8192 chance)
I never actively seek them out.

I read gen 6+ the rate was doubled, even so, I didn't find any in xy and it took me 60 hours in sun until this.

I just found this one from finishing, I usually only get magikarp! So I'm very happy with this one! Better than a shiny rattata or something. I was saving my masterball for something like this, I'm not taking any chances.

damn a shiny dratiny!! you got a good one!
i mean, you could had get a shiny magikarp which would give you the red gyarados which can just be transfered from a HGSS. but a shiny dratiny, good

i believe i found 2-3 wild shinies when i was a kid, but never caught one because either i skipped and only noticed after i ran away from the battle, or it was my friend who was playing and the bad friend shoved it off and didn't let me catch it

Congrats! You should try the Masuda Method too. It's way easier. Wild hunting it's nearly impossible, because it gets pretty much impossible after the first 5 shiny encounters or so. When i got my first shiny, i was super pumped to get more! I went wild hunting for 2 hours straight... Nothing. I don't know if i was unlucky, but i still blame the game for it :P I always try to get my favorite shinies (shiny zorua and zoroark <3) first, so it's a great idea to try it too!

Thanks, yeah I know about the masuda method, I read about shiny chaining etc, I'm just not actively seeking shinies out.
Years and years ago I remember RNGing emerald to get a shiny wobbuffet, but that was about it.
I don't play pokemon competitively, I don't breed etc, I just play the game and try to catch most of them/the ones I think are cool.
I'm a casual :D

Amazing! Train it into a powerful Dragonite someday! The only legit shinies I've ever heard of was when my friend found a Shiny Voltorb in DPP.

Shiny Weedle is still better though...

The first shiny i ever encountered was in diamond and it ended up using self-destruct, so yea didnt get that one. I dont go actively shiny hunting either but i do get a few from time to time. I recently got a shiny volturb in my playthrough of alpha sapphire. Congrats on the shiny, can't say im a fan of shiny dragonite but purple dragonair is pretty sick

Nice one. My first shiny was an Azelf in Pearl, I got lucky with that I guess since it's incredibly rare to find shiny legendaries. But it's too bad it's not a Pokemon I would actually use, so it was just stored in a PC box.
I've only gotten a couple since then (unless you count Pokemon Go), one was done by chaining fishing in X/Y and the other by abusing the Shiny Value thing in hatched eggs back when you could read the Shiny Value with a PC program by showing the Pokemon/egg in an online trade. So those don't really count since it's waaaay easier than getting a shiny normally.

Nice one. I remember back when I was playing Pokemon Platinum. I was still playing through the story and I was at Stark Mountain. I found either a Coffing or a Weezing (I can't remember), but it was shiny. At the time I didn't know it was called a shiny, but I knew it was rare because it was a different color and it sparkled. I tried to catch it... but it used explosion and killed itself....
