GBATemp blocked

Hi everyone,

I thought this would be the right time for me to write a blogpost. So at school we had no website blocked at all, on the WiFi that is, until this week. I was trying to access Nintendo Life, but I couldn't. A few moments later I saw GBATemp also was blocked. So I decided to think about my options & struck back, I installed the Tor browser on my laptop. Because they can't remove stuff from my laptop, since it's my own laptop. Now I can browse GBATemp again. You'll never get me school, neveeeeer!!!!

Now Chrome can be used again & it's snappier than tor.

I hope this inspired others to do the same.

you could just use a "normal" proxy ... should be much faster than Tor which sends you trough a lot of different proxys and slows you down insanely

Indeed, I think it's plain stupid to block this amazing community, what on earth did we do wrong?

They can't block proxys by default, they can only block ports so you would have to try some others but well as long as everything works for you it doesn't really matter anyways.

And it is not stupid but reasonable that they block pages like GBATemp, usually there are systems like Sophos UTM that have premade settings to block everything related to games or porn or music or whatever so that it is not as much of a hassle as it was years ago when you either had to whitelist pages that were okay or blacklist the evil ones manually

And in school you are supposed to learn and not surf on webpages ;)

GBAtemp ist also blocked on my school. I just don't mind because I don't use school wifi anyway.

Just use a VPN. Hoxx VPN or any will do what they're meant to do is unblock websites.

My school doesn't even block porn websites....

Don't know about your country but as far as I know they are "forced" to block these pages as they are actually the ones who get problems if you do something wrong with their internet connection.
Plus they are supposed to teach you so you only need pages that are needed for reasearching stuff.

Maybe they did have a bad admin or no propper firewall or whatever.
Every "good" firewall can automatically filter most pages that have special topics to them

I got a way to bypass it, I'm good. In my country there's no great FireWall or forced blocks on websites, only on site was ever blocked IIRC, and that was the bay where you can download stuff. Other sites aren't blocked, my school (not university) blocks certain stuff they don't agree with. I am glad they're too dumb for certain stuff & they don't auto-block AFAIK. It's a shitty school with shitty network configurations. Also it's a school for children with special needs, so I'm happy I found a way to bypass this shit.

my school blocks lots of websites. and they put admin settings on their laptops. i just use a web proxy to get on the sites
