I quit

I am giving up on homebrew development. It has been nothing but a nightmare since day 1. I have installed what is needed and have tge proper libraries but still get error upon error and cant even make the examples. I am very discouraged and annoyed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Outside of languages built distinctly for use in Windows development environments, using a linux OS (e.g. Ubuntu) is far superior for just about any multiplatform language. Do what thisisallowed said to do and get familiar with a Linux OS. You'll find compiling C(++) code much easier. I suggest using virtual machine software like VMWare or Virtualbox (I strongly recommend VMWare). Windows just won't cut it. I know from experience.

I downloaded VMWare and have the iso for Ubuntu. I just need to get it running

There's no need to be impolite. He might have the ability to create some good homebrew and is just frustrated. Devkitpro and ctrulib can be tricky to set up, and I had a nightmare with the portlibs too. While it would have been helpful to have more information posted in this thread from the start, I don't see any need to be rude just because he hasn't yet produced any homebrew.

Honestly the 3DS community is the shittiest scene I've been in. I've been with the DS, the PSP and now the VITA. Nothing's more toxic than the 3DS community. Actually its not the 3DS community, but more like the GBAtemp's community. Users always constantly bug devs like smea to release crap, so many wanna-be devs, and also "we have this, we don't need that" bullshit is fucking annoying. They don't promote homebrew diversity in any way. The userbase here is horrible if anything. Sure there are some great people here and many great devs too. (You guys know who you are), but they're overshadowed by shitty trolls, or people who try to get 'gbatemp fame' by making an other user look bad.

I agree with a lot of what Joel said, but I think it's a problem that extends beyond GBATemp and is just more the scene in general. With the exception of places like #Cakey and CTRDev, pretty much everywhere in the scene is toxic.

@Joel16 it's mostly because of kids that grew into the troll fads and instant gratification era of the internet. When I first started on xbox-scene during the original xbox hacking, 4chan hadn't taken over and social media wasnt as big.

My guess is you're picking up the Window's convert command instead of Image Magick's convert command. Try adjusting your search paths and/or verify that when you type 'convert' it picks up the Image Magick one.

Out of personal preference, I would avoid Ubuntu. I prefer Mint over Fedora, but there are arguments for both.

I've worked on quite a bunch of projects. From DS, PSP, 3Ds, Vita. I've always used a Windows laptop although I'd agree Linux is a better choice for developers. It's a little bit of a hassle on Windows, but once everything's set up its not at all bad.

Ive also been reading about Wine. Anyone have any experience with it?

Ive coded on Windows laptops/PCs for years but i cant seem to get it working properly

Yeah, WINE lets you run windows programs on linux. It doesn't have 100% compatibility, but it can run most things.
