Live 3DS Hacking at an electronic retailer

Today I went to one of the bigger electronic retailers around my area.
Over here they usually have preview/testing consoles for all kinds of stuff.
So I had my eyes on 3 Consoles.
A new 3DS, a new 3DS XL and an old 3DS XL.
The newer models started with a 9.7 Firmware where the old 3DS still had a 8.7 Firmware.
Prepared with a mobile ready to set up a wi-fi hotspot and a preformatted SD Card (4GB) for redNAND the session started off.
I set up the boot.3dsx, sysupdater and the basic things beforehand as well on the SD.
So I started up easily bypassing the "parental controls" setup by the retailer and formatting the device.
Then I swapped the SD cards (default 4GB for the set up 4GB) and connected to my mobile hotspot to enter homebrew.
First thing on the list was updating to 9.2 which went flawless.
Followed up by going back into homewbrew to launch Decrypt9 and flashing sysNAND into the set up emuNAND partition.
I formatted sysNAND a second time, started up homebrew and installed menuhax to get an autoboot into emuNAND.
Basically everything was done now, except setting up a custom theme just for the fun on the emuNAND and setting up parental controls again.
Of course 1337 was the perfect code to use and the theme had to be a custom Pokémon theme.
All in all it took about 20minutes to get everything done.
I skipped updating the emuNAND due to not having a proper internet connection.
If I had a computer on me and didn't want to be fast doing it I would have went with A9LH obviously. (Well another reason for not installing A9LH is to be able to remove it by just swapping the SD Card back)
For the same reason (and obviously not having easy access to the mSD) the new 3DS consoles had to be spared. They just got a simple format.

Lmao. I wonder how long it would take the retailers to know someone had installed custom firmware on their devices?

If I bring a small computer I may possibly be able to get stuff on the new 3DS SD cards using the SD Manager, but I guess that would be a little TOO obvious.

It'd be pretty funny if this became popular enough where it became an actual stunt that happened frequently. Even funnier if they were to brick it halfway through. :rofl2:

I didn't mean to brag about anything.
I was thinking about if and how it was possible. So I planned it out and set everything up.
I didn't bet with anyone or try to be cool or anything.
After doing it successfully and seeing blog entries are a thing here I thought I'd give it a try and share my story.

To add to the preview console stuff.
They show pretty much all consoles off at the electronic retailers here. (But I haven't seen Gamestop/EBGames do that)
PS4 and XBone are locked up so you only have access to the controllers which are fixed so noone can take them.
But it's fairly difficult to lock up handheld consoles, therefore they are usually "taped" on the backside by some kind of electronic wire which starts making a ridiculous sound if you pull it to hard or try to remove it. Same for the smartphones and stuff they have on display. I guess you basically know that. It's really common here.

But I mean it's kinda a proof of concept. If someone asks you to set up CFW for him you just need to set up an SD properly. You don't really need a computer or wi-fi.
