Guild Plays: Destiny (and some other things)

So I joined the PS4 master race not too long ago as you all know and I've been buying up PS4 games where I can. The one I want to talk about the most is Destiny though.

It's a game I wasn't expecting to like as much as I did. Like I don't hate FPS games but I'm never huge on them. Like I can never see myself playing a FPS past one playthrough or even touch the multiplayer. But hot damn, Destiny is fun as fuck.

A lot of people said it was disappointing but I never really followed the hype train so I really don't know what was promised and what was finished. But it's just fun, if not having a few flaws.

I think the biggest flaw is enemy variety. I'm still pretty early on (I just started the moon) but there's really only two groups of enemies so far: The Hive and the Fallen. Most of the time it's just shooting those two, there's some minor variety between enemy strategies (most shoot, some do melee, some use heavier weapons, etc). Still, most missions comprise of going from point A to B and killing some variety of these guys. I mean it's a FPS game, so variety isn't exactly king, but Borderlands (a similar game to an extent) had a pretty wide variety of enemies at least.

Still, I don't mean to put the game down, because everything else is pretty fantastic. The world is incredible, just the art and lore weaved with some very impressive graphics definitely keep it endearing. It feels very polished although it could have used more time I think, according to the hype train.

It's got a bit of a MMO-grindy feel, particularly in the patrol sections, but I've never felt the need to grind yet, more so just doing it because I have bounties there anyway.

I would heavily recommend it though to any next-gen console owner. It's fun and it's got a lot to do.

I've also played some other games I'll mention briefly.

Wolfenstein: The New Order. It's fun. It kinda bridges the gap between old-style FPS games and modern FPS games and does it rather well. I wouldn't say it's worth $60 but for $20-30 I'd definitely suggest picking it up. I got it for like $20 on sale.

I think I mentioned GTA V in another post but I'll mention it again. It's great. It's got a ton of content, a ton of mechanics, a really vibrant world, and I actually like the writing. I've found Rockstar writing to typically revolve around one character while everyone else is comic relief but all three characters feel balanced here. It's heavily polished, looks great on the PS4, and the first person mode is really great (except for driving). Another worthwhile purchase (and the bundle with it + The Last of Us + a PS4 for $400 might still be floating around).

I still have Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition and inFamous: Second Son completely untouched. I'll have a busy winter break to say the least.

To clarify enemy variety in Destiny: There are four main planets, and each one introduces a new race of enemies. The problem is though, you never fight more than one or two of those races on a given planet. Id est, the moon is mainly populated by Hive, with a sprinkling of Fallen, and nothing else. The next two places you go to essentially have the same problem, with one "major" race of enemies and a "minor" race that appears now and then.

I went today and looked at a motorcycle someone was selling. I get there and the battery on it was dead, so the guy grabbed a battery charger and hooked it up. He plugged it into the wall, and the motorcycle sparked and started smoking. Come to find out the bike uses a 6 volt battery and the guy had the charger set to 12v. I said sorry to the dude and walked away. I felt bad for him tho.

He ruined it basically. Sad cause it was a decent old bike. It would take more money to rewire the bike than it was worth tho.
