After long months of waiting and an immediate pre-order, I finally got my copy of Kid Icarus: Uprising, and may I say, it is so freaking beautiful! The solo campaign is remarkable, the acting is great, and the multiplayer is played every night!
I should probably talk about this a little more in depth, so here it is. The solo campaign is simple, you play as Pit through the story, and, aided by Palutenu, take on the forces of evil and all that good stuff. There's also a lot of nods to not only the first Kid Icarus game, but the fact that the characters are in a game. I'd tell you more about solo, but SPOILERS SPOILERS EVERYWHERE!
The multiplayer is equally as great, allowing players to kill each other on a multitude of levels (spiral tower's my favorite). In Light vs. Dark (a mode), both teams have a health bar that decreases when someone dies. When the bar is depleted, an angel comes to help the team. If the angel dies, the team loses. Whats cool is, the weapon that you use measures how mch health you cost your team when you die, balancing the game.
That's another thing. THIS GAME IS SO BALANCED! I was playing with a friend of mine using a staff with a 5 1/2 star range attack rating, while he used some very weak claws. However, he completely wiped the floor with me, proving that this game does not favor weapons, but rather, skill. After tons of online matches, I can now decimate him with any type of weapon.
Now, there are two things everyone has been complaining about: The controls, and the acting. BOTH ARE GREAT, AND HERES WHY! The controls may get a little hard to get used to, but after 30 minutes, you'll be playing this bad boy. Look mom, no stands! (Before you say it, I agree, that was lame). Now, maybe its because I'm left-handd and only have to press buttons, but a lot of people agree with me on this. The next topic, acting, has gotten some bad light. Many reviewers said the characters got in the way of playing the game, but this isn't true. Perhaps if you're used to playing serious games a lot, you won't be able to handle it, but to those with an open gaming mind, this script is amazing! The acting is meant to keep the tempo of the game upbeat, and not seem like you're mindlessly hacking away at enemies. It gives each stage its own flair. Additionally, the fact that conversations can even be had between Pit and the boss of the stage is great for setting the tone of boss fights.
