Airsoft...

So, there's this relatively new indoor airsoft place 5 minutes from my house, and me and my friends decided to go down yesterday for a few hours.

I have my own guns and BBs, but I needed to rent a mask ($5), and of course admission ($15), and my friends didn't have guns or anything, so they had to rent everything. :P

We went down at around 3 PM, payed, got set up, etc. So by 3:30, we were on the field playing. First match was a gametype called Cartel, where there are 8 bags with powder (Supposed to represent drugs...XD) placed in random rooms in the play field. I didn't find any of the bags, but I did hit a few people. Our team won with 4 bags, and the opposing team lost with only having 2 bags.

Next up was a game called Horde, which consisted of 7 people with heavy weapons (2 people had AK-47s, 2 had SAWs, and the rest had various AEGs) playing defensive up on the decks on their side. The rules were: The 7 people had infinite respawns, but to get back in, they had to be tagged in by a person on their team. It was roughly 30 of us in the horde, and we did horrible. However, we all played as a team pretty well, and I managed not to get hit at all. However, I didn't get any hits on the opposing side.

Then, we played the worst thing of the night...Terminator. We played 2 rounds of it, with the first one being pretty cheap. There were two adults, with AK-47s, and a cup tapped to their left shoulder. The objective was to rip the cup off of their shoulders. It's all about not being seen, and sneaking up on them. So the first round was pretty BS. The guy was explaining it, and they right when he was done, he shouted "RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!" The one terminator was right in our spawn, having started there, and took out pretty much everyone. The few people that got away eventually got taken out by the other terminator who was right on the other side of our spawn. Basically, we were unfairly fenced in from the start.

We eventually got to redo it, since no one was prepared for that, and the two terminators started on the other side like we expected them to originally. I got shot in the ass by one of them, and while I was walking back to the staging area (Safe zone right outside the play field where everyone takes breaks between matches), I noticed that like everyone around me was just getting demolished. The two terminators were doing great. So when the match was over, my little brother (Who went with us) told me he got one of the terminator's cups. I didn't believe him at first, but my one friend was with him and told me. :P

So, the last game I stuck around for (It was getting late, and I wanted to get home and sleep, since I had woken up pretty early yesterday) was Protect the Balls. There was a defending side, and an attacking side, which I was on. The defending side had 2 balls in a crate at their spawn, and we had to get their balls and bring them back to our side. My friend ended up getting to their side, getting a ball, and bringing it back without being shot. We didn't get the other ball though, since they were pushing up, closer to our side, making it harder for us to get close enough to take them out and grab the other ball.

All in all, it was awesome, and I'm most likely going back this weekend, if I can get money. I need to get a job, so I can buy a new gun, gear, etc. (Well, not just for airsoft, but it's one of the main reasons).

woah , sounds really intense !
out of the game types you played , the one that sounded the most fun was Horde IF you had the heavy weapons . assuming that you've tried paintballing , which is easier and which is more painful ?

Paintballing is probably way more painful...

Though, neither are that bad. If you have a little bit of protective gear.

Hoarde was the most fun, but we didn't have the really powerful guns. It was the 7 people up on the deck that did. Most of the people had assault rifles, while a few of us, including myself, had shotguns, and there was one guy using a rifle up on our side's deck.

And yes, I've tried paintball, and I can say that airsoft is easier, but it's also more painful. Yes, contrary to popular belief, airsoft is more painful. Paintballs are soft and squishy, and most paintball guns shoot at about 280 FPS, and they rarely break skin on contact, however, they sting more at first. Airsoft BBs are hard, plastic, and small, and they shoot out at speeds of 400 FPS and under (Some guns have a higher FPS, but most tournaments have a 400 or 350 limit). When I went paintballing before, I never got a single welt. But last night, I got quite a few when I got shot, and they stung for quite a while (Like a minute or so). Basically, paintball hurts more at first, but airsoft hurts for a while after. :P

Paintball requires you to lug around a heavy gun with a large hopper and large co2 canister that can get in the way (When I went paintballing, I rented a gun, since I don't own one, and the iron sight was like tilted on the side, due to the hopper's placement). Not to mention, the paint can get on your mask, blocking your vision more than it is. I prefer airsoft over paintball for many reasons, but mainly because airsoft is more tactical, and ultimately more realistic (With most, if not all guns being replicas of real guns).

As for cost, paintball and airsoft are pretty much the same for ammo, guns, etc. For a good AEG (Automatic Electric Gun), look to spend between $100 - $400. Of course, there's clothing gear (Gloves, vests, etc.), gun attachments (Lasers, sights, etc.), and more that you have to take into consideration.

It's very fun, and I highly recommend anyone who enjoys military simulations/scenarios, or just want to feel the rush of it to try it out. Most of the people at the place I went to were young kids (Between 10 and 14 years old), and there was even a 6 year old kid! It's really an ageless activity, as anyone who can cooperate with their team, and show good sportsmanship (Airsoft revolves around honesty pretty much) can play.

EDIT: Like Uncle FEFL said, they aren't really that painful if you have SOME sort of protection.

Sounds pretty awesome. I haven't been to play Airsoft or Paintballing in forever. I prefer paintball over Airsoft by a long-shot, and think it's much more "tactical" and realistic. To each his own, I reckon.

What kind of guns do you have?

I tried wearing real army issued gear then I realized it is stupid since it ain't real bullet and our battle armour weigh a ton. I love how realistic air soft weapons have become over the years, I have an M16A4 based airsoft and I weighs, looks, and feels the same as the real thing, most of its parts are even the same. I also love how we can apply tactical army strategies on this game and watch the civilians team's confused faces as they get destroyed. The game is definitely very realistic.
