The game made me update my 2.2U US system and it wasn't bricked. The game works on my Wiikey modded system. Here's the biggest surprise though:
SOME PARTS OF THE GAME ARE IN ENGLISH! I think the voices are still Japanese though, but what a pleasant surprise! Some of the text remained in Japanese (this was after I registered my Mii in the game) and the English text doesn't always fit in the text boxes. It seems to be very import friendly though.
Oh yeah, I've updated the wiki.

I must say, this game is GREAT!!
I played 9 games till now and all of them were a blast. And better: it´s 95% english! Till now I only had a small talk in japanese. I guess the game uses the language that your wii is, because some of the english texts are out of the text box. But even so, it´s very very easy to play!
I have a USA wii + wiikey, my version was 2.2U and the game did a quick update in my system, but everything is fine. I can´t confirme however that it´s out of risk for those that don´t have 2.2U firmware.
If you liked the Ds version, get this now! Playing friends must be a really nice touch too!

My girlfriend and I just played for a good hour. What a blast. Wiikey, ntsc-u console. This game is going to be a big hit.
Someone said this game performed an update on their NTSC-U console and now they cannot access the system settings...
