Hardware Xbox 360 disc stuck

My friends (elite I think) xbox's DVD drive went bad (won't close). He (and I) have been wondering if he wanted to replace the drive would it need anything special. I've heard something about drive keys when looking up modding options and I am wondering if I need those for replacing the drive.

You can also swap out the PCB's ;]
If you can solder a bit.

It's cheaper and "easier" then flashing.

Sorry, He's not trying to flash the xbox, we just want to know if you can just "plug n play" with dvd drive made for xbox.

You'll need to flash your keys to the new DVD drive anyways ;]
That is if you don't swap out the PCB's

Wait, I think I get it. I get the new drive, and take the pcb off the old drive and put it on the new drive? That sounds much easier. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes.
But depending on the drive, you may need to solder a few wires.

It's a simple soldering job tho.
