It has been said many times that it's not impossible, theoretically possible, but finding out how to accomplish it is far easier said than done. Having said that, it would appear that this guy has found a different way to accomplish the same goal. Very interesting.

I myself thought of another potential method I would appreciate feedback on- maybe there is a way to inject Wii roms into Xenoblade Chronicles (the Eshop version with gamepad support custom code). Could that work?

Ni it's not possible a number of people have tried and failed to do that.

Hey, that's my video! Yeah, from a software level I have no idea how to do it, this was wholly a hardware mod :)

PS: I am in the process of moving, but when I settle in my new house, I am going to be doing a version 2. I plan to take some progress pictures and uploading the code I used to make this possible.

Another stupid idea from me, what about if someone tried to make this https://cdn.instructables.com/FC4/C4B8/H6I6WADG/FC4C4B8H6I6WADG.MEDIUM.jpg
for the Wii U gamepad to clip onto a Wii U pro controller?

Seems a waste to have wii u gamepad buttons on the damned thing without being able to use them....

I used to use thermosetting plastic granuals from maplins to mould grips for PS3 pads to hold my iPhone. This could be possibly a good method for this mod too.

Edit the plastic was called POLYMORPH

That would be great!

The gamepad buttons are... weird colours, have they been replaced or are they different hardware within the gamepad shell?

Wonder if it can be done through software once a hardware solution shed some light?

Ha, yeah so the left analog stick and dpad were from a wii classic pro. Its cause I couldn't find the originals cause they got lost in a mess of crap lol

It was meant to be a proof of concept type deal so I didn't worry much about how it looked. My next go-round I would like to improve it and use only original hardware parts.

How feasible would it be to find a save game exploit in one the VC games that supports Gamepad controls to load into a homebrew launcher from there? Disregarding finding a save game exploit to begin with for now, since that's probably doable - does the Wii VC even acknowledge the presence of other IOS's? If you tried jumping to code would it even work or just crash? I know it has access the the Wii nand for saves so I'm assuming it could access everything else, but I've been told the Wii VC has some special IOS it uses and I assume you could go as far as running homebrew but if you attempted to jump into another retail GC or Wii application it would just crash, but it might handle it like vWii mode maybe? This is all me speculating, and I know research was done into this already but I haven't seen anyone propose breaking out of the VC game via game save exploitation. Wololo wrote a guide on how to find PSP exploits and a ton were found - are Wii stack overflows as common or is it genuinely small and non trivial to find one by poking RAM? I'd be willing to attempt finding one that way if it's a similar process but if stuff like IDA is involved I couldn't do anything myself. Assuming this is even possible to begin with.

This guy got it working:

Can a public user-friendly solution not be developed from this? I'd pay good money for it.

that is hard mod solution nothing there can be achived through software, heck you can dismount a wiiu pro open your gamepad and take out every gamepad controlls wires and replacing the inside of a wiiu pro and you get the same solution but you will need to dismantle both a gamepad and a wiiu pro and probably damaged some connections.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.

It inserts a newline in a random spot.

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea

even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
