Homebrew Who else wants to see a revival of Swapnote?

I think the time is now. With so many people using CFW now thanks to the recent kernelhax I think now is the time to bring Swapnote back from the dead. During it's peak, it was one of the most fun apps on the 3DS.

The anticipation of getting a new Swapnote and getting replies to your own. Miiverse tried to bring that fun back, but for other Swapnote lovers, I think we can agree it doesn't compare.

So, is it possible? Could a method be used to send Swapnotes through spotpass again?
A custom Swapnote DNS maybe? (That would be neat)

Plus, we miss Nikki right? I do.

Use this thread to discuss ideas. Maybe, as a collective, we can come up with something.

It was a pseudo IM/mailing service from Ninty.
You could send hand drawn letters to 3DS friends, even start small chats with them on it.

It was amazing, back when the 3DS was under a year old ;_;

Gosh, Swapnote was so fun! I managed to collect all the 73 different notes, plus 12 regional variants, thanks to some friends here on GBATemp back in 2013...
But lost everything when my XL stopped working one month ago

I would love to see Swapnote returning. And also, collecting all my different notes again

Yep, Ninty discontinued it.
Eurosport and Nintendo Video also are defunct.

It really is a shame they closed down swapnote that early.
According to Nintendo, sexual predators used it to contact little kids and they closed it down due to safety concerns.

I kinda do agree with Nintendo, seeing you could attach 3D pictures to swapnotes (could be used by predators to send nudes back n forth)
But then again, phones, watches, toasters.. everything that has an OS with a camera and internet functionality can pretty much be abused by sexual predators.

If Ninty kept Swapnote up and disabled the streetpass functionality on it, nothing much could go wrong as you need to know someones friendcode (both do)

Pictochat was indeed locally.
it's pretty much impossible for predators to contact kids on it.
(unless their within... 20? meters from them, but worse things could happen then)

Well i guess it didn't have that feel to it.

I sadly never got to send people messages because i never had any friends that had a 3ds.

I really only used it to draw some of my characters.

Test's confirm that it can send messages to a DS more than 60 meters away.

I remember early Bluetooth tests, showing data being send up to 100 meters.
It's merely about showing off how far it could reach instead of practicality.

To use pictochat practically, less then 20 meters is required.

Then again, you could spend years arguing what is safe for children and what is not.
In the end, it all comes down to the parents.
Their the ones responsible for either monitoring kids or educating them.

Its a alternative to swapnote and you use it on the 3ds web browser.
