Hacking Upgrading USB HDD

Hi, i just have a question with regards to the usb hdd used by wii u.

If I ever upgrade the hdd i've used to install the games on wii u, will i need to reinstall the downloaded games into the new hdd?

or can i just move the contents of the old hdd and put it in the new hdd and the wii u will be able to read it like it's the old one?
