PS2 emulation and it's an instant buy from me. And of course N64, PSX and GBA is welcome too, I would definitely be more interested if this gets hacked than if it won't be hacked any time soon. Only vice so far is the battery time which is just too less for my liking.

If you dont like the battery time, then just place it in the charger while playing, you wont go gaming around with a 5 inch handheld in the streets for sure

No, but I will definitely use it on trips in the car, chilling outside or playing everywhere in the house, where I don't have access to a charging point.
um... the car and house have charging points...

Do you think that they could hack it to view in 3D???like the current plugin for the PSP that views the games in 3D??
is called PSP3D i think, supports like a 4-10 games and it is a little buggy but its good playing size matters in 3D

I'd say the main thing that ruined the psp rosters was the ds. Easier to develop for, larger install base, and extremely successful in all regions.
As for piracy it didn't work well early in the psp's life due to memory stick size. Plus one of the first ways to pirate was an actual modchip. It wasn't cheap and it wasn't easy.
Edit:Spelling

????? that's totally untrue!

devhook .2 was released August 29, 2005 (source: http://www.psp-hacks.com/2005/08/29/dev-hook-v02/ and also while not the first version, it is still a very early version)

the ONLY modchip I know that was EVER released was the undiluted platinum... and that was released 2006.

I believe they were speaking for piracy in general, not just for the PSP.

imagine how less power Sony would have had against the consumer if they didn't win that goddamn lawsuit.

Um, they didn't win. They settled. Nothing was decided by the court, no precedent was made. It's back to square one for Sony & hackers. To be decided in some future lawsuit.

Oh my god, shut up about Sony v. Hotz. It's not related at all, you're bringing up bullshit that's been settled and is dead. Don't make this into a "BOOHOO SONY IS SUCH A MEANIE" thread.

I hope if the NGP gets a good set of emulators that it's just as good as the PSP was. I do love playing GBA games on my PSP, I really do like the widescreen view (even if it does stretch the game a bit).

Portable Playstation 2 would be amazing. Now, i can totally see the NGP not able to do this considering that PS3 cant do it.

given the amount of highly intelligent hackers and coders that sony have seriously pissed off recently, i would expect an effort of mammoth proportion to go into busting the NGP wide open as soon as it is launched. sony have doomed themselves imo. it'll certainly be an interesting time.

It might end up getting hacked, but don't expect the NGP to be tinkered by dudes overnight; the PS3 had been a Fort Knox until recently, so I think that would be the case for Sony's new portable.

I don't get why people think the PS3 was all that secure.

The only reason the PS3 was only recently hacked is the fact that we had OtherOS before which satisfied all our needs for homebrew. Why break in when you have the key?

N-no... the PS3 wasn't hacked for such a long time because entering Dev Mode required a separate piece of hardware, that being a factory USB key.

As far as NGP hacking possibilities are concerned, I'll give you a surefire one.

That's not entirely true. Other OS does indeed have a few exploits, but the people who may have been interested in the hacking of the hardware had no need to. These people have no need to play free games. The only reason people became interested is because Other OS was removed, and the discovery of that DevBoard. That fact that it could be done spurred everything to high levels of enthusiasm.

That hacksaw looks incredibly dull BTW, it looks like you need to replace the blade good sir.

That's because it's a magic hacksaw.

It's for electronics only.

It'll hack through any PCB, leaving that special, "obviously amateur cut". Priceless programming tool.

Now that would be kick ass. It'll be hard on the memory though, with 4-9 GBs per game
