Nint could've done better with the specs, seeing ps vita it has a powerful cpu. Neverthless the new 3ds isnt that bad.

It's not really about what they could have done, rather the 3DS at that time if you recall didn't sell so well and there were news articles about the company's loss on it. The situation was no different than how dead and dry the PSVita is right now, the cost of manufacture and hardware to make it as affordable since their target was always the younger audience, you'd think they'd learn by now that Ninty's younger generation from the GBC days are now in their 20's so it's time to up their marketing strat and hardware.

New 3DS specs:
- ARM11 MPCore 4x @ 268MHz (one reserved for OS)
- 4x VFPv2 Co-Processor (vector processors, like SPEs in PS3)
- 256MB FCRAM
- 10MB VRAM
- Dedicated Hardware Video Decoder
- Seemingly no change to the GPU, clock rate and all

Original 3DS specs:
- ARM11 MPCore 2x @ 268MHz (one reseved for OS)
- 2x VFPv2 Co-Processor
- 128MB FCRAM
- 6MB VRAM
- PICA200 GPU @ 268MHz

So unless someone finds a reality-altering hack that can magically turn your 3DS's dual core processor into a quad core and double the amount of RAM, there is absolutely zero chances of it happening, not even if a way to overclock the o3DS was found.
Dude, update your specs. N3DS runs at 804Mhz and both 3DS models only contain 6MB VRAM.

Vita's CPU runs at 333-444MHz. Even factoring in the ARMv7 and battery saving needs, that's a pretty big screw up by Sony.

According to 3Dbrew, the N3DS' processor can run 'up to' 804MHz.

3dbrew said:
On New3DS: when Home Menu is active, the system runs at 804MHz. For everything else, it's 268MHz, except when the app(let) has the required flag set. See hereand here for details, regarding clock-rate and cache.

So yes, the N3DS does run at 268 like the o3DS does, only with the ability to go all the way up to 804MHz when the application requires it.

You're right about the VRAM though, I should correct that.

This is extremely dated and debunked a year ago. Everyone on gbatemp uses 3dbrew as reference.

That's psm games run at 333-444mhz. Remember "rejuvenate" is still using the PSM system and thus it's only able to get at what games that sue that system have access too. For example you don't have access to the full ram, you get a small subset of it. I seriously doubt it's only 444mhz in real games as the specs say up to 2ghz. And finally until someone manages to get a kernel hack or similar so you can see how teh vita runs with real games 444mhz is nothing more than yet another artificial limitation put on you by PSM.

Sony originally didn't even let psm games to use all of the vram and had to take up sysram that they were given for gpu memory. Also the krenel is still having to watch over them way more than normal as this was targetting phone game developers pretty much and if you read the documentation it has all sorts of things about what not to do. It was an extremely gimped version of software on the vita to let "indie" developers to play on it and thus make games.

Until they get a kernel hack or a hack of a true psv game and are able to put in hooks to measure tick time anything other than that is just the PSM sandboxes limitations.

Plus early on in the PSP's life sony graded applications upon how much battery life that they used up, so it wouldn't surprise me if they gimped PSM to keep the battery life up even for unoptimized programs.

I think he used similar methods to yellow8 for finding the rates. Yifan is a pretty big hacker and has been accurate before.

And this:

Won't tell you anything. ARM11 goes to 1GHz for instance.

that's yifan lu's twiter based upon PSM clock speeds, and as I said until you get a kernel exploit or exploit a running game I'm not going to believe it. Everyoen's still living within PSM's limitations.

andyeah sure he says "it doesn't matter" but that's just throwing numbers out there. Until I can see hard prof of it on my own and see the cpu clock speeds it's just some random number pulled out of the blue.

I wonder hat the dmips on the new 3ds is in total, I know that older arm cores were only doing a tiny bit above 1dmips/mhz/core and the a9's are supposed to do 2.5dmips/mhz/core. I know the cache on the n3ds is going to be a major difference in terms of perf.

Hope this is not too off-topic, but what N3DS-exclusive games are there/will be released other than Xenoblade Chronicles? Haven't heard of any other. And if I'm wrong please correct me, I'd be more than happy to learn of new N3DS-only games.

We shouldn't even make that assumption until someone's already done it.
No, it's possible to overclock with a hardmod. I know it is.

Well, from what I've heard from my parents, he had a seizure last night, perhaps an epileptic episode, fucking died, had a near death experience, my dad called the paramedics, they showed up, took him to the hospital, and he woke up covered in tubes, and started complaining.
