Nintendo Labo announced

Nintendo has revealed the announcement they were teasing for today, and at 10 PM GMT, the Nintendo Labo was revealed to the public. Focusing on three key tenets of "make, play, and discover", the Nintendo Labo are "Toy-Cons" that consist of cardboard and can be crafted together to create things such as a little piano, house, fishing rod, and more. The Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons are then placed within them, for interactivity. To start, there will be two kits, one that's a variety kit which includes a fishing rod, 2 cars, a house, a motorbike handlebar, and a piano. The second, is a "robotic backpack suit". The products will cost $69.99 or $79.99 respectively.

Both sets will release on April 20, 2018, and Nintendo will be holding hands-on events to demo the Nintendo Labo in New York City from Feb. 2-3, and in San Francisco from Mar. 2-4. If you're interested, you can register for that here. The Labo will require folding the cardboard in order to make it form into the object you want, by following the guidlines provided in the box. Some of the creations will also have minigames that utilize the Joy-Cons, where you use the rumbling from the controller in order to know when to reel in the fishing pole. Also shown was a piano, which plays music when the cardboard keys are pressed.

Cool idea. I was kinda iffy because of cost and quality but...
- There's actual software for it, you pay mostly for that software, not for cardboard or blueprints.

- It's a fucking cardboard. Sure it will get destroyed sooner or later, but guess what? It's a fucking cardboard, replacement materials are lying somewhere under trash containers 100% for free (tho watch out for hobos, don't steal somebody's home) or are given away in grocery stores. There's NOTHING stopping you from replacing broken parts or even build it from scratch. Hec, i hope that Nintendo has plans to sell the software also separately (maybe via E-shop?), so you will have option to not pay for cardboard and instead make that "funnier" part of this game 100% free. Blueprints will probably be available on internet like 2 hours after releasing this project, hec maybe somebody is already redrawing them from trailer, who knows.

have you not read that nintendo will give you the cardboard for free if it breacks? also i bet chinise knockoffs costing afew cents will be up on ebay anytime they get the blueprints lol.
Actually Nintendo themselves stated they wont be freely supplying free cardboard nor will they give people the blueprints out for free (source: http://www.nintendolife.com/news/20...pplying_extra_cardboard_replacements_for_labo) so you'll have to rely on those chinese knockoffs or wait until another third party releases the blueprints out to do it yourself

You dont need blueprints for replacement parts. Just keep the "waste" cardboard pieces (the one were you popped out the parts) so you can retrace the pattern on another cardboard and cut them out.

To the people saying "It's just cardboard! WTF!", obviously you haven't seen Google Cardboard.
I personally think Nintendo Labo is a nice idea. A bit overpriced, but if it's good in execution, maybe it'll be worth the price. We'll just have to wait.

Yeah, I don't have a problem with the cardboard part. Just the price. Ha ha.

Dollar tree foam board... Cheap, more durable than cardboard. My 1st choice.
Liquor stores... Tons FREE
really any store, just ask for their trash shipping boxes... (waiting for N to send a C&D to Walmart for giving their trash out to kids for the parts...lol)

Having a 3d printer... PRICELESS

What would be truly hilarious, is if the N board, had some special invisible microdot or QR pattern coating, that the IR cam sees to verify it's legit N board, or a NFC chip in the board parts, that had to be read.
