I "bought" Sonic Generations, and I didn't like it. Now I am thinking of trying an older game, but I know nothing about Sonic. Any suggestions?
So is the original just called "Sonic"? What platform is it for? Sega Genesis? And what is the M2 Remake/Port?I would start with the original. It's still a good game, with great music. If you have a 3DS, go for the M2 remake/port. Sonic 2 is just as good, or maybe better. In my opinion, the only decent offering of the past 10 years was sonic rush on the NDS.

lol sorry for bombarding you with questions
Thanks! I played Sonic the Hedgehog last night, and I enjoyed it. Next I'll try Sonic 2 or the 3D Classics remake of Sonic. Then the romhack shadow1w2 told me about. It was called "Sonic the hedgehog" and originally released on the megadrive/Genesis. It was a bit of a big deal at the time. Anyhow, the sega 3D classics series has a great port/remake of the game, which I highly recommend as a starting place to see what all the fuss was about. But before that, you need to swat up on your gaming history
Here's a review from nintendolife if you need any convincing....

I agree. If we must start somewhere, it's better to start with that.2D sonic games, sonic the hedgehog 2/sega genesis, sonic rush 1/nintendo ds, and sonic advance 1/ game boy advance.
3D sonic games ,sonic adventure 1/sega dreamcast, sonic heroes/xbox/gamecube (ps2 version has framerate issues), and sonic colors/nintendo wii.
Don't think that you're gonna like any Sonic then lol.I "bought" Sonic Generations, and I didn't like it. Now I am thinking of trying an older game, but I know nothing about Sonic. Any suggestions?
Sonic =/= Freedom PlanetSonic the Hedgehog, Sonic 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Sonic Colors DS, Freedom Planet.
There are also some other decent handheld Sonic games, but the level design is generally lacking in them.
True, but I'll still recommend it to anyone looking for a Sonic like experience.Sonic =/= Freedom Planet
Freedom Planet is a lot better than Sonic
Anyone who likes good games*True, but I'll still recommend it to anyone looking for a Sonic like experience.
All this time I thought Master System was GenesisOh also Sega Genesis was also called Sega Mega Drive. Kinda important to know.
