Hey everybody, going to keep this story short but

I have a Super Smash Brothers N3DSLL 8.1J, why I mention that is that it's 8.1.0-0J, so no browser.

I got OOT3D and Gateway but I now realize that does not get me anywhere besides GW Emunand.

I realized that I should have downgraded before the 11.0 FW was released, now I dont have a safety net.

Why I want to make the move is that its starting to seem like a drawback seeing how modified DLC/CIA cant be run on Gateway Emunand, and I guess CFW have gotten to the point where Luma3DS can change the language of the Emunand easily which is what I was waiting for.

So what should I do?

Get Cubic Ninja/Sky3DS to do the 8.1 to 9.2 method

Get a game to update the N3DSLL to 9.5-9.9 to downgrade? (I'm aware that cart updates don't include the browser, but I do have a OLD 3DS CFW ready to install OOT3Dhax) (Note 2: I will be going to Japan in a few days, so buying a game to update it won't be a big problem)

Or wait till Gateway to put out their solution? (Seems like it requires the homebrew launcher, so I'm still stuck)

Worst case scenario, I'm just going to stick with what I have, I can still play 3DS games and thats why I bought it right?

My concerns are soft bricking my N3DSLL and being stuck with a JPN 3DS on 11.0 FW

I'm in the same boat with my JPN N3DS and have tried several methods without Cubic Ninja JPN. However, it's definitely possible to use CN to update your system to 9.2J: https://gbatemp.net/threads/guide-upgrading-8-1-0-0j-to-9-2-0-20j.384960/

However, I'm hoping that tomorrow, Gateway will provide a working solution to install "Arm9Hax" for us, so let's see what happens before you consider buying CN!

Well here's hoping gateway creates a solution, or else I'm going to have to hopefully come across Cubic Ninja in some store or buy a game to update it.

I guess no solutions have been made cause the downgrades helped the remaining 8.1J 3DSs in the wild.

I was in an identical situation. I ended up updating to 10.6 and then downgrading, but you CANNOT do that right now with 11.0 so don't do it.

Upgrading from 8.1 to 9.2 is the way to go, or wait and see what A9LH support Gateway release.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

    but that's a long shot

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
