Metroid Other M DVD9 to DVD5 tutorial

What you need

Metroid Other M DVD9 iso
WiiScrubber
Replacement files ( http://www.mediafire.com/?974jyox9m63bexs )
7zip or a hex editor

1 - Open the dvd9 iso with wiiscrubber
2 - Extract dm59_cut43b ( Partition: 2 -> movie )
3 - Replace all the other sdf files with dm59_cut43b
3 - Replace the game.rel with the one in the pack ( Partition: 2 -> rel -> game.rel )
4 - Create a DVD5 iso file by copying the first 4'699'979'776 bytes of the DVD9 iso in a new file (you can use an hexadecimal editor, or 7-Zip for example).
5 - Burn it!

Tested with neogamma r9 beta 41 + cios 56 slot 249 rev20

If you're freezing at baby's cry, you can try running the dvd5 ver, then after baby's cry scene change back to dvd9, dunno if it will work

What's the replacement .sdf file? Do you have the copyright for that?

Hmm, the DVD5 version should work to skip any freezing movie. The question is if all game data is the on the 1st layer on the retail disc. If not, you will get another issue eventually as the image with the "Baby's Cry issue" may lack the whole 2nd layer.

All the hassle but it can be a lot easier...

Just get Wiiflow, put the game on the hd and play. Easy as pie. I quitted burning games long time ago...

The sdf file is one extracted movie, removed it ):

The actual GAME data is 3gb if im not wrong, so it should not have any problems.

Could somebody please extract the movies, convert them with a low bitrate and make a good DVD5 version? If any DVD5 version would be worth uploading, then this.

Hi!
I've done that tutorial and it's working perfectly with neogamma on my PAL hardmoded wii.
I've done that with the IND release. That was easy, just try.

The only problem is that the game, if inserted before neogamma launch, make the wii ask for a reboot because of an error.
I don't know why, but it looks like a problem from the .rel file replaced in the tutorial, or a NTSC-PAL problem.

That will be fine for me, during wait for a DVD5 release that has downsampled videos and no bug/freeze.

Maybe that would be a lot easier for everyone, if someone release a ppf patch from the untouched IND release, just suggesting...
Bye, and thank you very much for this nice little tutorial.

Well, and before you ask, NO, I will not post my stuff anywhere on the internet.

Can someone take a screenshot from Wiiscrubber / WIT / your window manager of the files in the disc? Are the videos in a known (and convertible) format?

The videos are in SFD format, openable and convertible by TMPGENC from what I know.
You absolutely need the filetree from Wiiscrubber?
You have a dummy/sample in the rar at the beginning of the topic.
Make the thing now! A totally complete DVD5 version!

I don't even have the game, and I don't like pirating. I'll leave it up to the scene release groups, I suppose. Also, I don't want to spoil the game. For those who take up this project, mono is also probably a good idea.

Shame there's not a way to get the CG onto a DVD5. This is a game meant to be played with the CG as it tells a lot of the story, so without it it will seem really dry.

Hopefully someone can compress it enough to fit it in.

Nice idea - ripping the movies out of a game.
But there is one problem : without the movies you loose half of the fun playing
the game , i guess you can't even follow the storyline.

Well in fact we just loose the CG videos, a lot of ingame movies are with 3D engine so no problem.
Then, it appears there is 4,61 Go of CG videos, and by ripping the half we could have a "half complete game".
Then, just do the same with the other half, and there you have the 2nd part of the "half complete game".
And everybody know that 2 half result in a FULL COMPLETE GAME
unsure.gif
(on 2 DVD
closedeyes.gif
).
It could be a solution, cheaper than Double Layer medias (when they work
angry.gif
).
We would just have to change DVD when a video is missing.

Otherwise, including the end credits, there are 5 files that together have a size of 2,7 Go.
Certainly INTRO, END SEQUENCE, and longer than normal movies.
So just ripping this could preserve the gameplay experience.

Am I in a wrong way? Let me know...

You make it sound so easy! People don't want to burn two discs. They want one. In case people do want two, you would need to ask players to save around a certain spot, then use the disc for the other part.

That is, if the game lets you get away with those missing files.

I was installing mods for games, but when I removed the romfs folder, an error occurred. Now when I try to launch the game, I see a yellow screen, and I have to reboot the switch. Reinstalling the game didn't help. Can you advise me on what to do to launch the game without mods?
