Gaming Mario Kart 8 - How do I hide Mii Characters?

Unlike most games (and the bloody point of the feature), the Favourite Mii setting doesn't seem to affect the Mii selection in MK8, which is pretty annoying as I have a lot of Mii characters that I don't use in games, but they push the ones I do down the list, and I have to scroll through them every time I want to use a Mii that's under them.

Is there any way of hiding them without deleting them from Mii Maker?
