Okay so I thought installing the Power Management would have fixed it since I have had no problems in an entire 24 hours, which is unusually long for my laptop to not cut off. However it just did it again, completely, instant shutdown. I'm just at a loss not knowing what is causing this..

Instant shutdown normally indicates overheating of the CPU. Make sure you check the cpu temperatures via a program such as HWMonitor. I also have the thinkpad X201. It was running at very high temperatures on load >80-90c. The solution was to change the current power profile from Active to Passive for both Battery and AC Power. This ensures that the throttling occurs as priority before the Fan kicks in. Made a dramatic change since in heat output in comparison to the Active mode and performance was not compromised too much either (emulation e.g ppsspp, mame etc). Usual temperatures on medium load now at 50-60c or so.
