First off, hello to the forum.

I have followed this very nice tutorial (Installing Waninkoko's IOS249 for use with USB Loader) to the letter, and have the newest revision of ios249 installed. Neogamma will load games from a backup DVD well enough, though the slow access suffered from the fact its a backup is killing me.

The game is an English translation of Fatal Frame 4, which was fan translated since it will never be released in the US. It is a pre-patched ISO of the Japanese DVD, and accesses the drive often, making for anoying stutter when playing.

Due to this, I have been trying to run it from a USB stick. It is an 8gb sandisk cruzer, formatted and loaded with the game via the Wii Backup Manager, in the WBFS. The various loaders I have tried, including Neogamma, USBloader, CFG Usb Loader, and 2 or 3 others, all see the game and give me its info.

However, when I start the game from any of these, the same thing happens. When using ios249, the screen goes black, and the Wii remote lights turn off. If I use ios222 or 223, the lights on the controller flicker, but come back on, yet the screen stays black indefinitely. I have tried revision 19, then deleted it and tried rev 14 for giggles, and 249 rev 14 doesnt turn off the lights on the controller, but still doesnt load.

Could I be missing something? 249rev19 loads the game off DVD via Neogamma without so much as a delay, but I cannot seem to get the game to load at all from USB.

I do have the USB stick plugged into the port clossest to the edge of the system.

The wii is patched to 4.2, but I do have the HBC installed and many games like Doom and Powder running on it, so I think I have done most of the stuff correctly.

Anyway, if anyone has any ideas, I would love to hear them. Love this game and I would like to play it without the DVD slowdowns.

Thanks.

USB loading will not work in any version of NeoGamma older than RC3*. Notice the star; RC3* was just RC3 updated for rev19. The latest is R9 beta something. Go search for it.

Thanks for quick reply. I will try that now. I found http://filetrip.net/f10996-NeoGamma-R9-Beta9.html so I figured its worth a shot. Odd that others dont work either, including highly recommended ones like Configurable USB Loader.

I will post the results.

No go on the new Neogamma. Black screen, with controller lights off, and if I hit a button on the controller, the lights blink like they are trying to connect to the Wii, but then they shut off.

Using rev19 of the cIOS. Is that the correct one for USB loading? I believe its the most recent.

Also, when installing rev 19, it allows you to select a 'base' ios to use. I selected the default (I think it was OS57 v5661)

Use base 37 and see if that works.

Thanks for the reply.

I deleted the old 249 and 250, and installed using the 37 base, with no change. Black screen. Its like the Wii locks up after it starts booting the image.

Ah, you're playing Fatal Frame 4. Try changing the language options around a bit and hope that it works. I never played a foreign game on my Wii so I wouldn't know what to do.

Yeah I will take a look. I 'installed' a game to the usb stick right from the menu of one of the loader programs, and it worked perfect. So it seems, it may just be fatal frame giving me issues. Sucks because I have been going thru all this crap to get the Wii hacked and ready only to play this very game lol. Worse comes to worse I can always just play the DVD and deal with the poor performance.

Anyway, I will post if I find any way to get it running.

I have tried that. I will do it again in case I didnt set all 3 options at once or something along those lines. I am copying an unpatched Japanese version to the USB stick now, to see if it is a problem related to the English patched version, or if its an issue with Fatal Frame in general.

I have run Wii Sports off the stick as a test, and it works perfect.

Well I am begining to think it is a problem directly related to the game itself. Tried the unpatched Japanese version, same issue. I wonder if there is an Alternate Dol thing for it? It isnt on the list of problem games but since its Japan only, may not have been tried.

Well still no luck. Used RegionFrii to change ISO to USA code, tried brickblocking the iso, tried the Jap version, and 2 prepatched translated versions. Tried 249 rev 14, 17, and 19, as well as ios 222. Tried 6 different loaders.

I notice there are many sites on the net that say this SHOULD be able to run just like this. For example wiki.gbatemp says

RegionFrii to NTSC-U & Brickblock it; after that, it works perfectly. Tested with USB Loader GX (latest update, July '09) and Rev 14. Edit: Working on PAL Wii 4.2e - Cfg USB Loader 52bx2 (default settings) cIOS 249 Rev17.

If anyone has any other ideas, please throw one at me. It is very odd, since other games run fine off the USB.

Hi,

I found the solution. Its quite simple. (Only on CFG USB Loader Version 62, with Cios rev21, Wii 4.3E Wan)

Set LANGUAGE to JAPANESE
Set VIDTV to ON
Set Video to SNEAK + ALL (aka ALL)
Set COUNTRY PATCH to ON

Here is working 100% (ISO with english patch) and running on an USB IOMEGA 500 GB hard disk.

Any questions i will be glad to help
