If there are a lot of games on it that you want, and you have the money for games, buy it and keep it legit. If you're just looking to pirate games, don't bother. It's still too expensive to worth bricking.

Is it worth it if you already own a 360??

I had all 3 consoles at the same time, PS3, 360 and a Wii.

I've only kept the PS3, as that was the only console i was playing, the other two were gathering dust.

If you already have the 360 then i dunno, guess it depends on how bad you wanna play the exclusives, as most releases are multi-platform.

It's getting a bit old now.... the next gen is only a year-n-a-bit off now, but if you can find one on the cheap.... Do you have a 360? Owning both myself there isn't a great deal separating the 2, and if you're happy with the 360 you might not be as impressed with a PS3 at this time.... Worth it for its exclusive games though - if you're green with envy looking at those then sure, grab the slim and as big an hd as possible!

What are the advantages of having a larger HDD on a PS3? And why slim? I thought fat would be cheaper.

phat models r very prone to ylod almost to the extent of rrod for early 360s. a large hdd is a must for the ps3 since many games have mandatory installs that can be several gigs per game.

The only reason why I would say to get a bigger HDD is because if you have PS+ like me, you run out of room quick. Hell, I only have 20 games in my folder, and one or 2 movies on my HDD and I have like 30 gigs lift.

Only the first few batches which had cooling issues, mind you, and YLOD can be easily prevented as long as the PS3 is properly ventilated and has enough space around it. If you're truly worried about it, simply install copper shims on the processor and the GPU - it's a simple process and it'll effectively cool the console down.

@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though

    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
