Got a Switch just about a month ago now, noticed the fan since day one is loud, almost like a ticking sound. The unit has not been dropped at all, Im the only user (adult). Is a loud fan normal? It almost sounds like a rumble motor from the joycon being activated, but when I actually listen to it, its the fan spinning.

I can post a video later, but figured I would ask.

Thanks!

Mine is near enough silent. Sometimes after a long session on a more demanding game, I can hear it, but really only if I go over to the console (docked) and listen for it. It's not really something I hear in normal usage.

Hmmm, well, I can hear the fan come on usually around 10-15 mins of playing Mario Odyssey undocked. Ill upload a video of it later tonite or tomorrow. I was even thinking of opening it up and checking to make sure the fan fins arent bent at all or make sure nothing is blocking them.

I notice it alot while playing Xenoblade Chronicles 2 while docked, probably because I never had sound on. Even when I put sound on, I could still hear it.
Handheld mode, still makes a noise, and if you listen for it then you can hear it pretty loudly but while playing I never really notice because I am focused on the game (or wearing headphones listening to something)

Yeah mine is aways silent. The only time I can hear it sometimes is in docked but the volume has to be on mute. Also sometimes the fan will really scream for just a few seconds after waking the console up from sleep but that never lasts long.

Do you live in Russia or what? LOL

Mine is also silent, But I can definitely hear it when playing Zelda, some parts it increases a bit, but in the 20 hours of use of my Switch it was pretty silent, but I can totally hear it from time to time when it increases a bit, off course on a loud place outside home you might not even hear it.

But I never tested the dock, my friend's Switch was super damn loud on the dock while playing Zelda, but the console was also defective, it broke like 2 days after, was making a huge high pitch noise from the speakers even if we muted the console so he returned it and brought a stupid PSVR instead :shit:.

Mine is normally very silent. I think I managed it to spin up once, it was downloading a lot of updates while I was playing Xenoblade 2. It was a really hotday as well. So it spun up for like 2-3 minutes and then went back. Spun up I mean like you could hear it, but it's not like superloud.

Mine made a noticable whir and hum when I went to Dominican Republic late June. Very humid. No room air circulation. Poor thing just couldn't breathe.

In USA, it barely makes a sound unless it is doing something demanding like Fire Emblem Warriors scenes.

Actually, you should not care much about the fan noise volume unless it has some odd behaviors. I personally made a custom setup for my switch in dock mode that allows better airflow in the tight area.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
