Not sure about this visualizer idea but you'd still need a wii music player right? Hard to say anything about the code you're talking about. Link maybe?

https://github.com/visbot/vis_avs and https://github.com/visbot/chavs Is what remains of Winamp AVS on github
https://github.com/projectM-visualizer/projectm Is what remains of the cross platform "Milkdrop" on github
I just wanted to highlight those visualisation code links, if anyone fancies a look

At first glance, these codes don't seem very helpful. That'd still require a lot of work to rewrite mostly everything. I won't go into details but there's specific windows code, GL and at best sdl2 (Wii=sdl 1.2).
And again, it must be integrated in a music player. The Wii isn't a multi-tasking system. Unlike a PC, you can't read the audio from any running programs.

Well, nothing's impossible, but maybe a much simpler visualizer could be written instead and implemented in wiimc etc.

Thanks for having a look. I meant to respond to your media player point earlier, having trouble editing from android.

My thinking was that the media players are quite extensive bits of software
- this would only need to respond to audio: a mic, network stream (bluetooth?), or yes, an internal ogg/flac/mp3 player; without taking room of a full-featured media player, leaving space for visualistion code.

It's a major bummer this code is wayyyy outside what the Wii is capable of - before it was open sourced, it ran on much simpler hardware.
Would the "something" the wii could do - could that something be capable of parsing the user scripts, if not to full effect?

Maturing on the idea, the killer app, the reason to leave a Wii plugged in, autoboot to this, would be streaming audio from any where to an amp. Your laptop, your PC across the room, maybe your phone?
The visualisation would be more than a cherry on top, it's, like the ART of the 00's, right?

Interestingly, the earliest versions of this sort of visualisation thing, up to the Atari ST, only responded to joysticks and user inputs - rotating wiimotes might be fun - there was an analog precedent, using Pro TV and Video kit, still going (now digital!). Units costing tens of thousands.

Killer app in a sentence -

Turns your amp into a bluetooth/WiFi speaker, with a Wii.

Bootloads to that, from there, home button boots your loader.

EDIT: could a homebrew app force the wii to appear as a bluetooth audio device, hypothetically?
I mean, the physical bluetooth receiver hardware would have had audio functionality in other hardware, right?
Bluetooth wasn't available in the old linux builds...afaicr
Could you ping a Wii to wake up over bluetooth from a phone?
or emulate a wiiimote from a phone, as a bluetooth device with acclerometers and orientation outs?

That Dell data breach is worse than people probably realize....
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
When I worked for Dell we had access to data about military contracts and addresses for high ranking people.

I personally handled a call from the second highest person at Raytheon. That call bothered me a lot... The guy was nice and smart what bothered me was the way management basically just blew him off instead of going the extra mile to help him.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
In the end that call ended up costing Dell millions in lost contracts with Raytheon, and really the issue could have been solved for like 450 bucks lol

sometimes I wonder why anyone would ever buy mega man x legacy collection 2
  • NinStar @ NinStar:
I always thought that capcom shuffled the games in these collection, but apparently they are all in chronological order, which makes legacy collection 2 worthless
