I will +1 the DX version, to this day I can still beat the crane game every time. Also got to love explosive arrows.

In honour of the number of this edition* I must also recommend the spoof hack of this game otherwise know as Link gets Laid.

*who am I kidding, I would have recommended it regardless.

My favorite Gameboy game, as well as my favorite Zelda ever. I was about 11 when I played this, and I remember being stuck at some spots for months. But the feelings I had when I got past those spots were the best in my gaming life.

Great review!
This and Super Mario Land were my first two Gameboy games ever. Got em around 3 or 4 years of age.
I distinctly remember getting stuck in the 2nd dungeon- i spent a year of putting it down out of frustration and picking it up again cause i couldn't stay away. [i didn't know the names of the enemies for those of you wondering what happened, the 2nd dungeon has a room where 3 enemies must be killed in a specific order and the stone slab was little help to 4 year old me.]
Ironically enough, this game that gives me the biggest rush of nostalgia is also the game that taught me the very meaning of the word; if anyone remembers the ghost that can't find its way home.. once it arrives at the ruined house, "nostalgia" is all it had to say before evaporating.

this seems like an appropriate place for this:

This game was my first Zelda as well. I first played it on a friend's GameBoy, but I first beat it on DS a while later. I even installed the greyscale version on my TI-89 and played it at school :)

my first Zelda it was a great way to start :)
Me too. All those squinty nights, and the joy of getting one of those front-lit magnifying lenses so I can play it any time, even late at night. It's been years since I last played an iteration of it, but I can still remember that chiptune intro.

Agreed, it was my first Zelda game too, as it came bundled with my first Gameboy system. I wish Nintendo would have released the 3DS system, bundled with the Zelda64 remake... That would have been GOD-TIER in sales right there.

But what do we know, we're just the consumers... -.-

It's a really good game, there is a English translation. The engine used was used for this Zelda game hence the sidescrolling parts.
yeah... that's the game from where Prince Richard comes
it looks exactly like Link's Awakening.... it even has the same italic font

I remember trying to figure out if there was some way to defeat the shopkeeper after stealing from him. Could never do it. The force was too strong with that one. Wait, do Sith use the force? No, right?

Playing this game is an outright necessity! Folks who haven't experienced this gem are doing themselves a very naughty disservice, indeed (or are dismissing it simply to be "that guy")!

And also, definitely give Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru a shot as well! It shares a similar vibe, and since there's a splendid fan translation, you've no excuse not to give it a go!

I know they have it now, but they should have pushed back the 3DS release until the Zelda game was ready, and THEN bundle them at launch. I'm sorry if I wasn't clear on that. ^^;

It's not like it's very hard. put crane to the top right below the conveyor belt going upwards, wait for item to be at the bottom left corner, move crane down about 0.9mm and wait.

I'll +1 the classic game due to hippo tits and mermaid innuendo

What's the point of "confirming" games you know will get released. Like Nintendo "confirming" a Zelda sequel. "We can't be sure Nintendo is working on a new Zelda game, or if a new Zelda game will ever be released, until they officially confirm it."
  • Veho @ Veho:
"There is literally no way to know if they will ever release a new Zelda game, it's wild speculation until they officially confirm it."
