No, it doesn't. It doesn't list games with demo's available. It doesn't list VC games available to me *now*, unless I use the .jp version, which does fuck all for me.
For the demo part its not like you were going to buy the game

For the VC part why can't you use emulators?

YouTubers next? Thats what I heard

Youtubers that do the Tutorials videos are the ones that spread the news/updates/etc to the n00bs/normal users. Somes even host full packages of the files -Ready to Install-

Freeshop layout for finding VC was far easier than Nintendo's official e shop. And of course, Nintendo being Nintendo, they don't even know what the hell an actual "sale" means, and stuff that's been on said eshop for ten years by now will still go for full price, or higher.

Why no emulator vs official VC? Because only VC is counted as an alternative to "real hardware" if you want to submit a speedrun to the likes of SDA, even if the game in question is a romhack.

freeShop doesn't do this, the console itself does
NINTENDO said:
Nintendo encrypts the game files available from its eShop servers to prevent users from accessing those files without paying for them. Nintendo believes the freeShop application circumvents Nintendo's protection measures by decrypting the game files accessible from its eShop servers, allowing freeShop users to access and play Nintendo's eShop games for free.

Again, freeShop decrypts the content, thus making it illegal.
Nintendo themselves literally explain the whole thing in the DMCA notice, they're not idiots...
I can vouch that freeShop does not decrypt contents. You can feed data from Nintendo's CDN servers directly into the AM install functions. All you really need is a ticket with the title key so the system itself can decrypt and run it.

Keyword: believes
I can believe unicorns exist but that doesn't mean they do.
The freeShop code includes parts which decrypt the titles from the keys, hence its illegal.
You cannot seriously be suggesting an aplication which downloads paid files from Nintendo's servers for free and installs them is illegal. That's just a whole new level of dumb.

It isn't. The eShop does this too, and users don't have to use freeShop for piracy.

eShop does this with Nintendo's permission. FreeShop does this without Nintendo's permission. That's the difference. Thanks for playing.

[STRIKE]Aside from decrypting content[/STRIKE], FreeShop also hosted trademarked files (the icon images). There are a few layers to the DMCA.

Post was edited and striked-out in light of @Steveice10 's message :P
Like I said, this is the exact same argument that Torrent clients deal with; "the software is used to download copyrighted content and therefore should be illegal". The burden of proof here is on Nintendo, and freeShop's developers aren't liable for end user use.

Lolwut? I see you know how copyright law works. See, freeShop doesn't need Nintendo's permission. Downloading from the CDN isn't illegal, especially since Nintendo made no preventative measures against it. Now, the icons and all that might hold some ground, but they weren't used for monetary gain or in a corporate setting. This is just another hissy fit from Nintendo.

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
