But saying that is like shooting someone and saying that you didn't commit a crime because it wasn't you who killed the person, it was the gun. Freeshop might not be the one decrypting it, but it *is* the one tricking the 3DS into doing it.(from the dmca)

Not tricking, it's doing exactly what the eShop does, just isn't the eShop. But doing this is like shooting someone and saying that you didn't commit a crime because it wasn't you who killed the person, it was the gun. watch out, they may dmca 3ds's for decrypting 3ds content(from the dmca)

Time to start blocking that thenCan't believe nobody has mentioned this, but since FreeShop was done as an installable title instead of a homebrew application, it sends out the fact that you've used it directly to Nintendo via Friend Code stuff. Meaning that, if they wanted to, they could track every single 3DS that has used FreeShop. New banwave incoming?
The console itself is what decrypts the content, not freeShop. We also can't decrypt them on a PC. This is why D9 is needed when downloading from the CDN on a PC. And no, GitHub doesn't properly respond to these. This is an ill-faith DMCA claim, but unfortunately there are no laws against that. GitHub just bent over because they don't want to deal with Nintendo. YouTube does the exact same thing, and there have been many uploaders that were falsely DMCA'd into oblivion. The problem is that when one company receives a DMCA notice from another, the receiving company just says "sure" without even doing any sort of investigation. Bottom line; freeShop is not illegal for what it does. You're a troll. No need to personally attack anybody here or use the language you are using. We're all friends here, so let's act that way.
You can be pissed about twerps like me, while I remain pissed about people who have 0 respect for others, like yourself. Downloading is one thing, decrypting is another. Everyone was talking about downloading decrypted content from Nintendo servers, which is 100% illegal. But please continue to tell yourself this is legal. And please continue to call people derogatory names. It makes you look so mature.
You're the troll. There are 2 DMCA reasons listed. You completely ignored one of them, and then laughed at the fact that GitHub responds to DMCA properly. I can bet you have never ran a web site which had to respond to DMCAs. I have and I had to do the exact same thing as they did: temporarily remove after receiving DMCA to determine if it's legit.
But please, continue to shit on the community.
But the 3DS would normally not be doing that under these circumstances. Using the 3DS to pirate or break the law is against the EULA.Not tricking, it's doing exactly what the eShop does, just isn't the eShop.
EULA != DMCABut the 3DS would normally not be doing that under these circumstances. Using the 3DS to pirate or break the law is against the EULA.
This won't happen. Can't believe nobody has mentioned this, but since FreeShop was done as an installable title instead of a homebrew application, it sends out the fact that you've used it directly to Nintendo via Friend Code stuff. That is true, but it doesn't help the fact that the sole purpose of Freeshop is to aid the user in pirating, which is illegal.EULA != DMCA
same applies to any and every homebrew app that hasn't been specially crafed to disguise itself as another game, so far Nintendo have been not to bothered, but with recent developments I wouldn't be against a set of spoofed homebrew tools to avoid getting invalid titleID's etc loggedCan't believe nobody has mentioned this, but since FreeShop was done as an installable title instead of a homebrew application, it sends out the fact that you've used it directly to Nintendo via Friend Code stuff. No it's not, and it never claimed to be (officially). That is true, but it doesn't help the fact that the sole purpose of Freeshop is to aid the user in pirating, which is illegal.
Keep a copy on your PC from Git.so we know the main alternative to this is CIAngel.
what files do I need to have in order to make sure that IF ciangel is taken down, that I can continue using it?
Just the CIA for it, we don't have a custom cache or anything, so as long as the titlekey site stays up, CIAngel will function even if the repo is DMCA'dso we know the main alternative to this is CIAngel.

Again, this is the Torrent client argument. Anyone can use their own encrypted title keys and legitimately download games they purchased. Just because people use it for piracy doesn't mean that's its intended purpose.I can see the argument that it is a grey area. But the reality is this: FreeShop can only be used for one thing. On its own, it is a shell waiting to accomplish that one task. If you had a device that's only function is to blow up the planet as soon as the keys are inserted and turned in the device, would you not want that device to be removed/dismantled if possible? Even if the keys are nowhere near it, I'd still be worried that the device is out there just waiting for someone to insert the keys and turn.
can't believe no one mentioned it??
we have had homebrew on the homescreen for ages, it's already been talked about, no bans really so, don't worry.
