Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age will be getting a PC release

Square Enix has announced that after the highly successful sales of Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age on the PlayStation 4, they will be bringing the game to PC audiences this year. The PC version also boasts new features that were not in the PS4 release, such as the ability to add max Gil from the start, New Game + already unlocked, 60fps, and ultra-wide monitor support. Final Fantasy XII originally launched for the PlayStation 2 in 2006, and sold over 6 million copies. Square will also be holding a launch stream, with both the producer and the director of the game, and they will answer questions from fans.

Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age will release on Steam on February 1, 2018. It will retail for $49.99, but those who buy it within the launch window will get a 20% discount.

Then wait until it gets discounted like the other FF titles on Steam or wait until it gets cracked. To be honest, though, you can make PS2 games look pretty darn good through PCSX2.
Oh aye, Dragon Quest VIII at 1080p with all the bells and whistles on looks the dogs bollocks! FFXII doesn't look quite as good on it, but I begrudge paying that price ....will pick it up on sale eventually, I just think that initial pricepoint is a bit cheeky...

It is rather steep, yeah. With all these remakes/remasters going on I would love to see the cost comparison between the original and the new version to see if the price point is valid. They'd have to spend, what, 5/6ths of what they originally spent on FFXII? Unless you were to consider the original cost in a you-pay-for-my-experience-and-training kind of way like with various professions.

man, those console peasants can never understand the ultimate pc experience, some people just can never understand how to enjoy games on superior system, they are just happy and fine with their games on inferior ones:

-never tried stable 60fps;
-never tried 144/240hz gaming;
-never tried fast SSD loading instead consols' slower loading time;
-cheaper games, and STEAM SALES(god bless lord gaben)
-4k
-use any devices for any games, i can even play last zelda with ds4/x360 controllers!!!!
-free online multiplaters....etc etc
well, to fair there are consoles that come with SSDs nowadays, you can also put one of your own on both xbox (all of them) and playstation (PS3 and PS4) consoles and some games run at stable 60 FPS on consoles, hell, some run at 1080p 60 FPS

Great news, but $50?! Fuckin hell fire.... I love FFXII, in my opinion the only good FF since VII, but there's no way I'm paying what is pretty much a full priced game when I can carry on playing it through PCSX2.....'arrr!' etc.....(I did pay top whack for it back in the PS2 days though)
It's $40 if you get it right around launch. I would've preferred $30, but $40 isn't prohibitively expensive as a launch price.

Awesome! Can't wait to play! I'd love to see some modern Final Fantasy games hit the Switch like this and XV. But for now, I guess PC will have to do. Pretty funny how Square Enix is slowly turning their PS exclusive games into non-exclusives.

GODDAMNIT I JUST BOUGHT A NEW PS4 partly because of this exlusive. STOP RELEASING EXLUSIVES TO PC!!!!!!!!!!!

But the only advantage I will now have is HDR over the pc version...?

How will this new game plus differen from PS4?
I read there is new game weak and strong in ps4?
So im confused... is there new game plus? where you carry over your items and XP in PS4 or not? or only pc?

Um... PCs can use HDR. Also, the game's been out for months and Square Enix has been porting their games like crazy on Steam/PC. If FFXV is getting a Windows release, it is just a matter of time for FFXII. And about the new game+:
Most intriguing, though, is the ability to select either New Game Plus or the curious New Game Minus content from the get-go. Instead of playing Final Fantasy 12 all the way through again to hit the postgame stuff, Square Enix will let PC owners start off with it. (You’ll still get to go around shouting that you’re “Captain Basch from Dalmasca,” thankfully.) But New Game Minus will add an extra challenge, as players won’t be able to gain any experience points. If that sounds like your kind of thing, have at it.

Yeah but not all versions support it. Like Tombraider PC doesnt have HDR but Console has.

Yeah still doesnt make much sense with all these "different" new game modes. Now we have plus, minus , weak , strong..
So my old question still stands. Is there in ps4 version carry over level + items you made?

I don't know where you've read these "weak" and "strong" descriptions, but I'm 99% sure they're just a translation of ng+ and ng-.
The Zodiac versions have two New Game Plus modes: New Game+, where all characters begin at level 90, and New Game-, where all characters start at Level 1 and do not gain any experience, preventing them from leveling up. Nothing carries over into these new save files. In the console versions New Game+ can be started after completing the game, and New Game- can be started after the player completes the game's Trial Mode.
From that description it doesn't look like you can carry over your items.

I read this description when googlign FF 12 New game plus. I Found a topic where these modes were mentoined. Maybe someone more knowledgeable about this game can comment.

If you don't trust information from the Final Fantasy wiki then by all means, don't let me stop you from waiting.

7 8 9 all came to PC
Key word is "came." Crappy versions at least a year later for 7 and 8, quite a while for a decent version of 7 and 8, and a PC version of 9 didn't come until 2 years ago. Considering how often games get ported to the PC nowadays (or even back when) generally when saying "exclusive" you're talking about when it was released. Final Fantasy was a Nintendo exclusive, then became a Sony exclusive, and now every mainline FF but 1 and 2 are on the PC.

This is all I think of when I hear about this game.

Is it any good? Thinking of trying it when it comes out on PC.

Oh god, the cringe.

It depends on how much you despise FFXIII's style of combat and/or love combat from FFX and before. It's the first (?) mainline FF (outside FFXI ofc) where you control your player's movement in combat. You give basic AI choices to your party members (with more as you progress through the story) like "If party member HP < 50%, cast Cure" and control the main character who can also have AI options that it automatically uses when you're not issuing commands. I enjoyed it but never got around to finishing it because of A.D.D.

Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
