Yeah, that's another one they want to do but still haven't decided for definite yet. I'd personally prefer they did Decode for 3DS, Adventure doesn't really interest me too much.

i agree the only games i've wanted to play are the first one a re-digitise because the first 3 seasons of anime were amazing and would have made digimon as big as pokemon :P

I thought they were going to translate Digimon Adventure PSP next? I'd much rather they translate that one next. I wanna be able to play Digimon Adventure with the Japanese voices and soundtrack in English.

There were a couple groups who were working on adventure PSP. I'm in the middle of writing some tools to make editing the game's files easier for xhai's translation project.

i know digimon is awsome, its never had the chance to become popular oversees because of the digimon copied pokemon thing but digimon was there first
How do you figure that? The first Pokemon games came out in early 1996, while the first Digimon ever (the Tamagotchi style toys) weren't out till mid 1997. Also the Pokemon show was out about a couple years before the Digimon one.

So it's understandable that some people think Digimon copied Pokemon since it did come along well after Pokemon had already taken off. That said, aside from being about kids using monsters for battle, there's few significant similarities. One could even say that BOTH series copied Dragon Quest V, which had monster capture-and-battle features way back in 1992, years before Pokemon was on the scene. Or even Megami Tensei, which came years before that, and had you recruiting demons to fight.

I don't think Pokémon had that much of an impact on the creation of Digimon though. The V-pets were created as a spin-off to the original Tamagotchis, meant for boys. They just took their Tamagotchi idea and inserted battles on it since japanese boys LOVE raising creatures and making them fight (bug fights were huge among kids back then, not so much nowadays - actually, as you may know, the same thing inspired Pokemon). And really, the V-pets were just that: Tamagotchi with battles.

Of course none of this matters as much as it should, as the series was still labelled a Pokémon rip-off (because that's what the marketing campaign in the west, specially for the anime, really tried to pass it as).

I would like to be explicitly clear in stating that I am only interested in Pokemon and will never play a Digimon game.

That said, I like data structures, so I decrypted the Digimon Re: Digitize ROM and updated the PSP archive unpacker tool to work on the 3ds files. The structure is very similar, just two additional uints in the File Table, and ZLib compression being used on nearly everything.

I've attached it to this post. I have absolutely no intention of doing anything related to digimon translation (pokemon >> digimon), but this should get anyone who IS interested over the first stumbling block.

Got it decompressed, and am looking at the files now.
I don't really know anything about the translation project for the PSP and if the file formats inside the archive are the same, but none of it looks too terribly hard to work out.

Maybe when you have all them ready to edit, we can make an interactive website for translating it into different languages :)

itf its just a straight port from psp to 3ds and all formats and files the same, we could ger permition from the psp team and just port their translation into the 3ds and credit them and maybe get them guys to host it for us :P

Well, I'm sure the graphics files differ slightly, but as much as my internet connection sucks, I'm not about to go and download the psp version to look at the files for it.
The ASM hacks are going to be next to impossible REALLY HARD to do at the moment without decent debugging. PSP has ppsspp and it's actually somewhat useful debugger, for 3ds we have... nothing that can even get that far just yet.

I spent all day out and about, and only got to sit down at my computer for a few minutes and have to get back up again, but later I'll poke around more at some of the files and see what's up. Kinda need to put a little more time into Adventure though.

If we argue over who copied whom, we'll go back to chess, tic-tac-toe or maybe even jokenpo (paper-scissors-rock) because all videogames copied these in the fact of being games, but to be fair with Digimon I remember quite well reading somewhere that the first version of tamagochi, which had a different name (changed for business reasons?) came way before Pokemon was even a concept, but my memory may be wrong (I have no proof).

Anyways, I have always liked both series but I remember the very first Digimon game for the PSone was just...otherworldly. I still play it up to this date. I got all hyped when I saw re-digitize and realized it was about the very first game on the PSone. Is it actually worth it? Is the gameplay smooth or does it bear a lot of repetition justified by eye-candy?

About Bandai not localizing it, Capcom never made Megaman Legends 3. Actually, Capcom killed Megaman. At least Digimon is still alive.

i was playing digimon b4 i even knew what pokemon was but my first pokemon experience was the first movie.

either way i freaking love training and watching my monsters grow. so nintendo should be making a pokemon mystery dungeon that uses figures that you place on an open pokeball portal (like skylanders) that let u train and raise the said figure pokemon in the game and given the ability to access specific areas with specific pokemon. id pay £60 pound every year for a game like this.

they could launch it with 6 starter packs one that gives u game poke portal and 3 starters from each region so there would be kanto staterpack, johto staterpack, hoenn staterpack, sinoh staterpack, unova staterpack and kalos staterpack and there could be wii u version and 3ds version

isn't that something they can do with the New3ds and the amiibos or whatever they're called?

Anyways, back on topic, I found the xentax topic for this game.
the game's script files are, at the very least compatible with a tool found there, so that's something. Still haven't gotten around to looking at the graphics data. I really wish now I had gotten around to writing something like TextureFinder, but with support for all of the 3ds's formats and tiling. Oh well, I'll put it on my todo list if nobody else gets around to it. Does anybody know if anyone got that patching system to load romfs from SD working? the thought of re-building romfs and all that every test sounds like a major pain...

Texturipper supports this game's texture formats.

Beside translation of the game, it would be cool to change back color of poo to brown, as it was used to be in DW1 xD
