rpx and wuhb. you need the assets on the root. this doesn't contain them. also, the wuhb, which is designed to return to the wiiu menu upon exit, has infinite loading, which the dev will likely never fix as this is 3 or 4 years old, so power down. the rpx, returning to the homebrew launcher through tiramisu, should work fine upon exit.

Awesome I can finally get back to playing Cave Story on the WiiU. As the WiiU retroarch core for it has not worked for me in many a year.

Am I right in guessing this can't be used for the prequel Cave Story's Secret Santa??

To be honest I didn't know about Secret Santa until last week when I was on my favourite illegal rom site and was doing a search for some other game (I can't remember what) And Secret Santa popped up in the search lol.

Found it... but I remembered that I have both the original port and the enhanced rpx and my forwarder points to wiiu\apps\CSE2 Enhanced\CSE2.rpx so you would have to rename your folder to use it I'm afraid.

you'll need to reupload the icon, tv, gamepad stuff to make another wuhb if this gets fixed. it's too old, so it doesn't contain any meta to make a wuhb.

How the heck do I get this to load as all I get is a black screen.

I have created a folder called CSE2-enhanced-en which is on root. I have then put my cave story data folder in the CSE2-enhanced-en folder but it won't load. Arrg

I know I'm probably being dumb lol.

I'll double check but take out the -en if using my forwarder. Sure its just apps\CSE2 Enhanced\CSE2.rpx

Yep still can't work out where the PC cave story files should be placed on the sd card for this to work on the WiiU lol. It's doing my head in now

if you got the assets from archive, I think they're named correctly. the folder goes on the root iirc. if you're using a forwarder, you might be able to find out in hex. I'm using a wuhb myself. btw, I thought it was something related to wut, but it's not. I think the rpx, if returning to the home menu, also suffers from infinite loading. no issues returning to the homebrew launcher though. a friend told me several other wiiu apps suffer from the same problem. they're likely old, unattended or abandoned apps way before exiting to the home menu even existed.

root/CSE2-enhanced-en/data/loadsa shit!
/ConfigCSE2E.dat and profile.dat(in beside data folder)

That's what I have tried several times yet always an instant black screen.

Tried with data from the freeware cave story and from the plus version with no luck

not sure what could be wrong. I did have to recompile the rpx, which was untested. the wuhb is from my sd card, which I did test. I got no errors with the rpx compile.

OK so a little update so I have been trying to get this to work using the wuhb and also through the hb channel rpx and both just black screen.

A few minutes ago I suddenly remembered earlier in the thread @Lostbhoy had posted a channel version so I thought might as well give that a bash as tried everything else. And now this beginning to think I will never get to play the game on the WiiU lol.
