Hacking Best Way to Mod Any Wii: ModMii for Windows: Official Support Thread

Bootmii is an IOS (kinda), it gets installed to IOS 254. It can also be installed to boot2 in older Wii's. The private folder is what holds all the official Wii stuff, like copied save games and message board data. If you already have the HBC, you can just run the modmii wizard and when it asks if your Wii is a virgin say no. Even though you only have bootmii as IOS, I would still highly recommended making a backup, just to be safe. The new wiimote+ remotes not working is a known issue. Some homebrew has been updated with a fix, other homebrew has not.

The private folder files are just data copied from the main Wii memory. Message board data: I've never heard of that being stored on the SD card. Maybe under the Photo Channel data, which can be transferred to the SD card. I heard the new motion+ remotes weren't working, but I didn't have a problem with them. They worked with both my 2008 and '10 Wiis, even in the Homebrew Channel menu and all its subsidiaries. I couldn't understand why people were having problems with them; maybe they didn't have all the updates installed. I think I might try installing Bootmii on 254 since it's a black Wii...

Message board data: I've never heard of that being stored on the SD card.

If your message board gets too full, the wii lets you transfer it to your sd. This is what allows the letterbomb/wilbrand exploit to work.

Sorry was out of town...but thanks for all the replies... letterbomb set up a folder with private and apps folder in it and when I ran bootmii as first time hacking it created a folder with apps, private, bootmii and wad in a folder called copy_to_sd...so I thought I'd have to rename the ones from letterbomb...and i think bootmii was only an option to install as iso since the wii is newer...does it being a black colored one matter? ...So having hbc already installed , what do I need to run or install? Again thanks for all and any help

Sounds good. Everything you need is in the copy_to_sd folder. And when you copy the folders inside this folder to your SD card, you can insert your card into your Wii and load whichever app you want.

I'm kinda confused maybe someone can help me out here just got Wii that have system menu 4.1 I'm at part where it says would like to install following channels in Modmii photo, mii , weather, news, shopping etc The wii already has the channels listed I know I'm going install shopping channel because I want buy from there on 4.1 but photo, mii, whether, news, do I have install these? wii already has them will I get duplicate channels if I install them? This is virgin wii by the way never hacked.

They are optional, you don't need any of them. If you do download and install any of them, they will just replace the previous channel, you won't get any duplicates.

Thanks for answer only installed shop channel everything went fine hacked my wii but homebrew channel is using IOS61.

Dont know where to post this but since you guys rock and helped me modmii wii..haha...which by the went flawlessly thanks... i installed wiimc and get the dreaded...could not find a valid sd or usb device blah blah...i am running ios58 thru hbc but cant find a solution for this. I installed it thru hbc and downloaded v1.3.4 as a new install on the sd card but i get the same thing.... no sd ... i dont have a usb but installed it on an sd ..anyone help? Ive googled but cant find a solution, Again you guys rock thanks for any help...again if this question doesnt belong here can someone point me where?

Did you try 57? I think you can also download it from the Homebrew Browser.

Hi all, when i make an SD card with this tool to try to hack my wii, the letterbomb appears but when i click on it it's just a message of squiggles and squares, any ideas please?

Good afternoon everybody. I'm here to report an issue with ModMii.
As per the rules, here's the scoop:

• -I haven't used ModMii yet. I'm currently in the process of installing this program on my computer. During the installation process an error presented itself to me. As the required files were being downloaded (a rather large command-prompt styled window was visible, it's background a glaring blue, the text also present on the window differing in colours of white, yello, purple, and perhaps others. The process stopped at file 13 out of 60, when it froze altogether. The process ended with the following image:

So apparently there are some files that are missing, invalid, or otherwise bad. Argh.
I'm thinking that the bad files can be located on the internet. Is this true? And if so, what should I do with them exactly after they have been downloaded?

• I've been using the guide available here on this forum.
• Being that I'm new here, I'm not sure how to format this post into a "spoiler." Sorry for the extra space!

I'm trying to hack my wii for the first time and I think I understand most of what's required to get things going but, like I0cust, I can't get HackMii or the BootMii SD files downloaded. I'm guessing it's just that the hackmii/bootmii site is down because hbc.hackmii.com won't load along with bootmii.org. It's been like this since last night. Would anybody be kind enough to point us to an alternate location, if one exists, to get the required files? I think I can get the letterbomb download with the hackmii installer bundled dowloaded but it worries me that I'd be putting the files on the SD myself rather than just moving the directory that ModMii creates.


If it would be simpler I would be completely satisfied with getting some version of Neek loaded through Casper to emu a NAND and play my backups, but I've tried that for the last few days as well and I figured it'd be easier to just softmod the wii. All I'm trying to accomplish is getting rid of CD's and playing backups through USB or SD.

Edit: In regards to trying casper/neek, I can get letterbomb opened and it brings up the Casper scam screen. But after leaving the wii sit on that screen for 15+ mins, nothing happens. Nothing else will work after the scam screen opens, ie. the Wii won't turn off unless you hold the power button, reset button does nothing, and the wiimote doesn't do anything either.

Awesome, site is back up and I got everything I needed. I'm now the owner of a softmodded Wii via ModMii. Thanks tons for putting the time and energy into that program, it made the whole process so simple. I do have a few questions though. For instance, now that I have HBC and the USB loader installed (I think its called CFG? It's the recommended configurable one), which files do I need to keep on my USB/SD card? I know that ModMii can cleanup my unnecessary files but my question is more aimed at what's absolutely required to run homebrew. As in, is everything that my Wii needs to make use of the HBC and the USB loader stored nn my Wii's memory or how does that work? I don't ask for any extra-specific reason, I just like to know what's going on lol. And also, where would the save files from the games played via USB loader be stored? Different location for different apps maybe, or internally like a normal CD? The games themselves are in WBFS format and saved on my USB card in the :\game directory. 1 last question, what's a good SD game loader you guys would suggest? At the time my SD card is larger than my USB lol, but I am getting a decent USB or maybe even a legit hard drive on payday.

U will basically need everything not removed by Modmiis file clean up function. Modmii will inform u what will be deleted and ask u twice if u r sure before doing anything.

Game saves r stored on the Wii by default, but some usb loaders allow u to change that. Can't remember if cfg offers that.

Pretty much all usb loaders support sd card loading. And games should be in a WBFS folder, not games.

Ok tyvm for the replies. ModMii so op lol, I love it. I'd rather the saves be stored on the Wii personally, so that's good. I thought that I had read something about cfg and sd and you're absolutely right about the WBFS folder, idk why I said games.
