Bayonetta 1 & 2 to be de-listed from the JP and EU Nintendo Wii U eShop next week

s-l300.jpg

For those that still play games on the Wii U, it's time for the last call on Bayonetta 1 and 2, in certain regions. Nintendo has announced that on September 18th, the Nintendo eShop will de-list both Bayonetta games for Japanese and European users. No word was given on if the North American version of the game would face the same fate. As is standard with de-listed digital games, so long as you own the title prior to removal, you'll always be able to redownload it and play it, but this is your last chance if you want to legitimately own both titles digitally. Of course, you could always just play them on the Nintendo Switch, as well.

Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 for Wii U will no longer be available to purchase on Nintendo eShop from 23:59 CEST on September 18th, 2019.

I have the wii u disc for both games anyway, but I want the switch game. Just kinda disappointed that the first one is digital only cause I don't need 16GB of storage space used on my switch when I play the game cards. They really need to stop making compilations of games split into two and one being download only. Is just not fair. I already paid $60 for the game on wii u, and I don't want to pay $60 again just for the same exact game that's 5 years old.

I mean the solution to the whole 'I don't want to pay $60 again' is to just not pay it lol. These releases are largely aimed at the masses who skipped over the Wii U, and I think it's great they're bringing them to the more popular platform.

On the topic of the thread however, it's a bit odd. Wonder what Platinum stand to gain from delisting them.

I understand what you are saying, but what about the people who don't want to go back to a older system to play a game they can be playing on the new one? And I know what you will say. "Just by the game then." So is just a circle to be drawn here. I understand it isn't me they are focused on selling the game to, but it also doesn't mean they aren't hoping people who had the game on wii u will buy again. Or you can call me a crazy conspiracy theorist. I'll accept that too. :ninja:

From my perspective, Nintendo looks at these games thinking 'a lot of people paid $60 for this on the Wii U, but a lot of people didn't have a Wii U', maintaining there is $60 of value still there to be had. And thinking of it like that, they're not wrong. They're great games that've been ported. Through their previously good reviews and the odd new tidbit added people buy them at full price, so they keep releasing them at full price.

That said, I do completely agree with you. For something like New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe, a £25-30 price tag at release would've seemed about right for me. It's an interesting question as to whether they'd make more money by reducing the price slightly, but we'll never know lol

One of the few physical games I own and one I don't plan on giving up anytime soon, for as long as I have the system. Also the only title I've ever double-dipped, as far as I'm aware.

Also, 1 is better than 2. Just saying.

I just usually consider that older games would be automatically lower sales price. That's usually what %90 of games amount to. I'm not saying that they don't have the right to sell old games at that price, just that there would be some compromise.

For game like Bayonetta 1 & 2 which only difference between systems is probably faster load times and higher resolution on switch, (and a download only version of the first game) there isn't much difference in content. Compared to Donkey kong tropical freeze where they added easier game modes, and New super mario bros deluxe which added again, new easier game mode and DLC. To me, I would have had less problem paying $60 if instead they did

Donkey Kong Country Returns HD + Tropical freeze Collection
New Super Mario Allstars, HD collection (DS, Wii, 3DS, Wii U games 4 in one) NAME IN PROGRESS
New Super Mario Bros U + Super Mario 3D world
Super Mario 3D Land + World

Least to me it would be worth paying $60 even to buy again. I also understand that stuff like "port" aren't easy process and I honestly have no idea how it works. So I only speak as a consumer because it is what I am. I never would ask for more of something if it's too troublesome, but I don't think a compromise is too troublesome. Is just hard to agree on. :ninja:

Well, 90% of people on this site pretty much pirate all their games.

1 is way way better than 2 and I will keep shouting this from the rooftops until I am heard.

2 is not worth playing.

You are the only one who agreed with me that 1 is better than 2.
1 is a stylish action game with near infinite replayability. 2 is a flashy action game. I wish I could like 2 more, but they really can't compare.

I only finished 2 once. I've lost count on how many times I finished the first one.

I hope Hideki Kamiya somehow returns as a director for Bayonetta 3. His absence in 2 was missed just like it was missed from Viewtiful Joe 1 to 2. Trying to emulate a style isn't necessarily better if the core gameplay has been done better once before.
