does anyone have any suggestions on trying to hack into these? There's a lot of restrictions that have bothered some people (you can't edit (not even to change a color) or display them in the Able sister's and you can't even scan QR codes until after 11 days at the earliest) so I've been trying to look into ways to do so to see the underlaying pattern the QR code is made of.

is this possible? I haven't seen a topic about it and the game has been out in Japan for over 5 months now (and over a month and a half in Korea), so I hope asking is okay.

you mean the clothes editing right?
you cant hack them, they are creations by people
i believe they choose if they are locked or editable

its after 11 days in game due to that is when the able sisters open shop
you cant change this

people actually have blogs for there creations

Actually, they don't choose. They are automatically locked to both the player and the maker if they do it with no warning. So, if you make an outfit and decided you want to make it in other colors, but have already made a QR of it and didn't save a copy, you actually have to recreate the entire outfit.

I saw the hacking of QR's in Crashmo and Pushmo, which are also created by people, which is why I asked.

nukeboy - not fond of fast forwarding time and you'd have to do it one day at a time anyway since you have to talk to Sable 11 days in a row.

Well this iPhone app lets you scan QR codes and it shows a little preview of the design after you're done. I think it even lets you change the creator of a code... it's not well documented though... still investigating.

I took a cursory examination of the QR Codes awhile back, and I was able to successfully alter a pattern and its name in a hex editor. I was also able to scan the code again, and the game accepted it. This proves two points: 1) The QR codes are not encrypted, and 2) There is no bizarre checksum scheme going on.

(Also, I believe I used a QR code compressor/decompressor intended for Pushmo to get the actual data from the code, as well as to write new ones.)

Seriously? That is awesome and helps a lot. Going to look into the QR code compressor/decompressor for Pushmo then at the least for now

Yeah. Of course, I didn't test this with "pro" designs, only with the individual patterns. I'd imagine it'd be very similar, but can't say that with 100% certainty.

Yeah--I think the biggest thing though is just all the different sizes which could cause some issues.
Hats, Shirts, and general patterns are still 32x32.
Dresses are 32x48
Short sleeves are 16x16
Long Sleeves are 16x32
Faceboards are 52x64 (which has an area in the center that you can't edit as it's where a player's face goes through)

At the very least, I'm mostly just hoping to find the pattern underneath (so like the old 32x32 graph pictures people would take pictures of for others so they could make it in their game before this QR thing) it over actually rebuilding/editing QRs which I'm hoping will make it less complicated so I can just make/pixel them in like... photoshop and save to make on Day 1.

So I keep seeing these creations pop up all over the place. Any ideas on how they are being made. I am not a very good artist, so I would appreciate it if someone knew where an easy to use generator is. I found one for the Android OS, but I am not sure how to use it. Suggestions?

QR codes themselves will never be encrypted, even thinking that is plain silly. They are a new generation of barcodes. Like barcodes it's the store/app/program that decides how the code works/ is for. Those programs or system using them can be encrypted, but the barcodes/QR_codes never.

Through trial and error people have figured out how the qr codes pattern is handled by different apps. In this case animal crossing has been out in Japan since november. By alternating various qr codes officially available for the game until they got working altered ones, they slowly learned what change in patterns worked, and didn't. Once they learned how the qr codes are handled by the game, it was a piece of cake to make an app for making their own qr codes.

I went today and looked at a motorcycle someone was selling. I get there and the battery on it was dead, so the guy grabbed a battery charger and hooked it up. He plugged it into the wall, and the motorcycle sparked and started smoking. Come to find out the bike uses a 6 volt battery and the guy had the charger set to 12v. I said sorry to the dude and walked away. I felt bad for him tho.
