1. Sounds like you already have b9s or a9lh installed. Try putting arm9loaderhax.bin from Luma 7.0.5 on your SD card, or boot.firm from Luma 7.1, or Luma 8.1. One of these should work.
2. Same as above
3. You can't, unless you do an internet update to 11.4. You'll have to use one of the browser-free methods. If you'd stayed at 4.x you could have used the DS flashcart method. But you can update to 6.x and still do that. Don't update past that or you'll need https://3ds.guide/homebrew-launcher-(alternatives)

1 and 2) Thanks - it's Luma so I believe al9h? Do I only put one (I'll try both and see what I have in my zips I downloaded) of those files on the SD and nothing else? Just to get it to boot? Once booted can I then put/do I need to put the other files back on the SD?

3) I don't have a DS Flastcart, and thought I would get the browser by doing a cart update. My bad! What other browser-free methods are available? I don't see any on 3DS.guide

Thanks for your help.

1. Luma can run on both - up to 7.0.5 is a9lh then 7.1-8.1 in b9s. Download them from https://github.com/AuroraWright/Luma3DS/releases
3. Https://3ds.guide/homebrew-launcher-(alternatives). These won't be free.

OK, I have stock, completely unmodded 11.4.0-37E on N3DS. I want to install luma3ds and boot9strap, but I can't afford a second system. Is there a way to install boot9strap with just the one N3DS? If not, then what do I really need it for? I want to emulate (S)NES, GB(A), and PSX, get a DS flashcart running, and backup .3ds files from the cart, convert into .CIA and install, So if boot9strap isn't necessary, then that clears a lot of headache. Thanks in advance :)

You need CFW for everything you said unless the DS flashcart is recent and can run on 11.4 without help (if you're happy with just DS, GBA and SNES then a DSTwo will do that, will cost about $50). If you want CFW and aren't willing to buy another console (this is the most cost-effective solution by the way - just sell it afterward and make yourself a profit). Then you'll need a hardmod. The people in this thread are considered trustworthy by the community and can do this for you for a fee (the fee plus postage both ways will cost more than what a used 2DS will cost you so just think about that): https://gbatemp.net/threads/list-of-hardmod-installers-by-region.414224/

Thanks, also it says that the source 3DS needs cfw on it already, so how am I going to be able to set it up on that? Or do I need to find one online with it already installed?
Sorry if it's obvious, a total noob is me :D

In regards to 1) - reverting back to my question, do I ONLY put the specific file you mentioned on the SD card - no other files? Then it should boot? OR, do I need to have the SD card with all the files in place and mark sure that the boot.firm is there as well?

If you can confirm, I'll try later on.

You don't need to move anything from the card. Just add boot.firm

Everything was lost from the cards though because they were dodgy SD cards that became corrupted. So now I am starting again with blank SD cards and the two 3DS's both just flash blue when power is pressed.

That's why I asked if it's only adding that one file to a blank card, OR do I need to add everything again?

Sorry for the confusion.

You only need boot.firm for it to boot up. Everything else is just the content on your console. For example, you will have lost all your installed games and their saves.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Can someone explain what Rosalina is, what it can do, how to use it and should I use it? (i have luma 8.1 b9s btw)
Rosalina is the new way to use homebrew instead of *hax (plus other functions). Hold Down, Select, and L to launch it while in an app, then attach it to the currently running app, exit the app, then go back into the app to have the homebrew launcher open instead of the app.

Feel free to tag me, anyone, if you have more questions.

Oh cool, can someone make an empty app so people can just attach it to that? Or do we do it to some app so nintendo doesn't go spoopin?

The guide recommends Download Play, I think because it has the best compatibility. If you don't mind installing a cia you can just install the homebrew launcher cia and run it from there rather than keep it permanently attached to Download Play.

On the USA 3DS I added the boot.firm and it's come back to life, however I wasn't able to get safehax working via soundhax previously as it would go fuzzy. I've downloaded the correct soundhax for the console and now get an error on playing the file via Nintendo Sound as shown below ...

Any thoughts?

Hey all,

So I have hacked my s/o's 3ds. The hack was successful. However, when I tried it on a 64GB SD card, it didn't work, the SD card wouldn't read from the 3ds (she is currently using the standard 4gb card from nintendo). I see people are using 128GB SD card. I got her a class 10 SanDisk Ultra PLUS SDXC UHS-I, formatted to NTFS. Any suggestions before I return this? Is it a size issue? Also, if I can get it working, is there any way to transfer the current data she has (copy and paste?)? Thanks a ton

I'm not able to get to Section II of this guide - whenever I try and press start at boot, the 3DS just boots as it would normally instead of into the chainloader menu. I can still boot into the Luma Config Menu, just not the Chainloader. (luma version is 8.1)

@Xdqwerty No you heard wrong, and don't believe till you experience yourself. Fallout 4 is one of my favorite games of all time. Yes it had issues early on, esp with older hardware like the xbox1, but it is awesome, esp now being 4k on Series S/X or PS5

Yea you right there, fallout 76 was a letdown, but it not that bad now, they have fixed slot of issues they had at launch. Biggest issue with Fallout 76 is its a pay to advance further type of game, which sucks
