Need a spot of help. I'm trying to downgrade a 10.6E 3DS XL. I'm using The Homebrew Launcher (Browser) tutorial and I'm at the Decrypt 9 stage. I'm at the stage of the tutorial that I'm already on 9.2 but now need to get back into homebrew, however I cannot get back into homebrew. When I press down and press the power button, it boots straight into the home menu, when I try and use the QR or web address to get into homebrew, the browser starts to boot, the screen changes into different colours but then the browser freezes before it boots to the home screen with the error message pictured above. Any help and advise with this will be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance guys.

1)Did you already deleted home data?
2)Do you have all the starter.zip?

Roms can be converted to .cias, but I don't think .cias can be converted to roms. Converting a rom to a .cia strips all of its header data (.cias use the console's own header), so I don't think there's any way to convert it back to its original format.

Thanks for the reply, I kinda thought as much. I am reading a lot of different information on installation and conversion of ds roms and cia files... Can roms be converted to cia ON the 3ds now or do we need to use a computer program? What is the newest/best method for doing this at this time?

So the purpose of this 2DS is to downgrade an O3DS XL with the Sys transfer exploit.

Now, the guide speaks of the sudokuhack injection and whatever. I don't really understand it, but can I just purchase any compatible game and then follow the guide normally, or do I actually need to do something? Since it speaks of file sizes and whatnot I'm a bit confused there.

Also does it matter which title I purchase? All the titles for EUR region are 4,99€ so can I just pick any?

Original release or "budget" re-release fine? http://amzn.to/2hIrH0F

I asked this couple pages back, and the Nintendo Selects versions work just fine. They are identical to the original, but cheaper. I used Nintendo Selects Stickerstar myself just fine today.

The file size is mentiones to encourage finding more compatible games, but no, just buy the game and follow the guide

im reading the 3ds.guide, but i dont understand this part:

prep work;

14.- Copy the contents of the starter.zip to the root of your SD card, then put the SD card back into your 3DS
15.- Copy the Decrypt9WIP folder from the Decrypt9WIP .zip to /3ds/ on your SD card

why the Step #14 say i have to put the sd card back if in the next step (15) ask me to put Decrypt9WIP folder in the SD? why put the SD in and out?
is this a typo or im reading this wrong??

If it's written like this, then it's a typo

Does the
  • Call Nintendo and tell them you no longer have access to the device that your NNID is linked to (which is the target 3DS in this case), and would like it linked to a different device (which is the source 3DS in this case)
Step actually work? Isn't it kinda suspicious that first you have NNID on your console, then an hour later you don't, and then you want it back on your console. What if you do this multiple times if I end up modding someone else's console? Wouldn't it raise some red flags at Nintendo's?

Alternatively if I just make a dummy NNID and transfer it to the other console, can I then use the Remove NNID step with Godmode9 to remove it and re-link that console to an actual NNID, or is calling Nintendo needed still in both scenarios?

And finally, if I make a dummy NNID on the target 2DS, will this 2DS be able to re-obtain the DSiWare I bought without the NNID?

Ninty has a record of which console is a NNID attached to, you can remove it from the console nad put another one, but the one removed can only be used on that console. What calling Ninty does is unlinking the NNID from the console so it works on the SOurce 3DS

  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
