Sorry if this is dumb, but I'm out of the loop, and have my 3ds on old timey menuhax. I have a gateway, so I might be using that to install, but are there any downsides to doing so? I previously was using a mix of cakesfw and gateway with menuhax, but I want to make sure i have everything updated including emunand. Not sure what kind of setup will be best for me.

Hi all! I hate asking but could not find it: What type of Micro SD card would be recommended for for a N3DS that will be set to run Luma3DS via A9LH.
I'm wondering if 64GB is ok and if it requires a specific format type. I have read that anything above 32GB can be too slow in menus but that it may be fine with FAT32

Also is there any noticeable difference between Class 10 and the faster U3? These are the 2 I was looking at.

I'm taking the CFW plunge and wanted to ask here before making an ass of myself in the main forum.

I would go for the Ultra. Afaik the n3ds can't even make use of the speed for the Extreme card, and thus would just be wasted money.
It will work fine if you format it to FAT32, and from what I've seen only the Wii U has any real slowdown issues with 64GB cards.

If you injected FBI into your Health&Safety app, you use that to install CIA games. They should then appear on your home menu after you finish installing them.

If you mean install A9LH, then please PLEASE do not use Gateway to install it. Use the guide below to install A9LH, which is far greater than menuhax and will allow you to boot gateway from it with a little tinkering.

Thank you! I found some other sources saying the same thing as you! I just wanted to make sure I'd be able to figure a way to use the GW card with open source a9lh, as I already have a lot of content stored in that format, and I find it easier to synchronize GW saves between multiple consoles than exporting saves individually.
You save me a big headache if I had used GW method, it looks a lot worse.

From what I know the Gateway won't boot from a9lh v2 (the one Plailect's guide installs), at least not by itself. It requires a secondary payloads that loads first, which then boots the gateway payload.

I highly suggest to continue using Gateway in emuNAND instead of sysNAND, as it does not properly protect sysNAND FIRM0FIRM1 to prevent A9LH from being removed. I believe the link above allows you to set up dual boot Luma3DS CFW and GW CFW. My recommendation is to use Luma (or other community CFW) in sysNAND, and then continue to use GW in emuNAND.

1) Yep, it's the same thing.
2) The CIA games can be in any folder.
3) With Luma3DS, you can play English games on a Japanese system. Yes, you install them with FBI.

So the game i can play any ver. ?(My sys info writen 11.0.0-33j) after i finish all the step..

And now i just using home menu to install and play..
Then the homebrew tool for now is no use?

You can still use Homebrew even with arm9loaderhax and Luma3DS. There are somethings that are Homebrew only. I can't think of any right now but I do know that some exist.

I'm trying to test out the DSiWare exploits before getting a New3DS, but the guide says to put boot.nds on the root of the SD card..

You can try the dgtool but DON'T ever run the downgrade on your CFW console (specially A9LH)
A9LH won't protect you if you press "Downgrade FIRM".

I advise you to only put the "boot.nds" and the "public.sav" put leave the FIRMs out of the SD.

You won't loose anything, in this case (no NNID) and you'll still be able to access the eShop.

If you go from Old3ds to Old3ds, you can use the game to transfer from one to the other (after 7 days cool down).
If you go from Old3ds to New3ds, you can still use the game in the same away but only from New3ds to New3ds(after 7 days cool down).

You CAN'T do it from New to Old/ 2ds.

It is possible to play games online. It's also safe to access the eShop, Miiverse, and any other online function that the 3DS has.

So i still thinking wanna do the region change or not now.. afraid will be kinda troublesome in future.. (access to eshop or fre eshop)

Your eShop access would be dead
You'd still be able to use freeShop

The backup will only be useful for hardmod restore if you rewrite your FIRMs (you'll lose A9LH).
Saying this because one user followed a guide on Youtube and the package from the guide had both Old and New FIRMs and He decided to test the tool and BRICKED (probably because the tool doesn't check if it's New or Old 3DS and used the wrong ones).

But, for test, (and I can tell you it does work) if all you have is the tool and the Hax, you can launch the game and use the tool to, at least dump your FIRMs.

If, by any chance, you have the FIRMs, and you press "Downgrade NFIRM to 10.4", I trust that if it's the correct one, what will happen is you'll be on stock (whatever ver you have at the moment) with a NFIRM 10.4 and it might be rescuable with only software (boot Browserhax and use a restorer Decrypt9, Emunand9, Hourglass9) and your A9LH-SysNAND backup.

If you have a hardmod, it's easy to test this.

So using "Restore F0F1_O3DS.BIN" in dgTool wouldn't work?
Unless rewriting the Firms deletes DSiWare saves.. (I have a legit copy of Exidia)
