Hi. I had the same exact problem a few nights ago and trust me whatever you do for some reason the retroarch app will not be the same ever, so just delete it and do a fresh install.
I advise you to simply pick you GUI of choice and inputs on your first run and then exit the app so those choices get saved. Don’t run any cores/games on your first run and just set it up. Also if you are going to be using the Channel you don’t need a single core folder under wiiu/apps/here....not even the retroarch one as its already installed/injected via the Channel. Just install retroarch folder on root and download or rewrite cores from the retroarch app or site on that folder when you want to update. Careful of overwriting your playlists, I just keep them on my desktop as well lol.
Also, I find myself closing the current running content now before I want to start running a new game and it helps with prolonging that memory error and at most times having a solid run of a few games and not getting it at all.
This memory error is some funky shiz and I hope they fix it soon.
Thanks, that's reassuring. I copied over a fresh folder of sd:/retroarch and it launched fine. I had to use a linux live cd to use linuxes partition manager to save my sd card, no app in windows allowed me to format the drive. I understand to little of this stuff to know what caused it but some sectors must have got locked up in the process of retroarch downloading assets.zip .
I am preparing the wii u for a kid as a gift, so the current state of retroarch is not suitable for a young child who would have to know what he's doing far too well in order to not mess anything up. I appreciate the work the developpers are doing and don't mind waiting a little longer. For now I will just use the wii's snes9x and the FCE ultra. I made channels using the injector script and they run fine.
