Nintendo announces the New 2DS XL

Coming out of absolutely nowhere, Nintendo has revealed a new variation of the 2DS...the New 2DS XL! The system features a top screen that looks almost like a cell phone snapped onto the bottom of a 3DS. It has the extra processing power of the N3DS, amiibo functionality, and the C-stick nub, while, just like the original 2DS, omits the 3D feature of the handheld. The New 2DS XL will release on July 28, and retail for $149.99.

Fortunately the game isn't very good, so no harm done.

EDIT: upon further inspection there seems to be a front-facing camera on the hinge, so all is well I suppose.
You're...joking right? Yokai Watch is one of the greatest and best selling games on 3DS. The series is like a kid-friendly Shin Megami Tensei.

No 3D version ... its kinda expensive considering the new 3ds xl is basicaly at the same price and i dont see cameras, even if i barely used them.
But i do love the design, they seem to have a good hinge this time around, why keep the same crappy c stick though ...that really needed redesign.

I hope there'll be a modernised redesign for the OS coming with this system (as a system update for all systems), even though it's probably not the case, but it'd fit the modern/matte design of the New family.

It is totally unnecessarily. Wow, Nintendo is a greedy for other one. They should move on to a new portable system and not redesign redesign and some more redesign. Enough!

What you're saying doesn't make any sense. "a new portable system"? do you want them to make the system triangle shaped so u can feel like it's a new system? the word redesign literally means design (something) again in a different way.

i call theese "the last breath edition"
it is the last version the company releases just before (or after) the next gen replacement comes out..
other examples of what i call them "last breath edition" wii mini, gba micro, psp street
but usually they are a cheap "lack of kinda useless features" edition.. but i guess nintendo didn't follow that trend in this case

Wow, I might get one of these!

I already have an N3DS XL but I rarely use the 3D. But then again, doing A9LH all over again is a pain...

I'll assume that the a9lh installation procedure will be the same for the new3DS to not enter sleep mode while on 2.1.0. I don't wanna take those chances to test it out myself.

The fact that this one can actually fold is nice, a friend of mine was recently griping about that saying he might get a new3DS instead. I'll have to tell him about this soon!

Along with the new folding ability comes two separate screens for once instead of a single cropped display. Again, cool.

But is it worth it?

It would have been nice if the speaker locations were on the top screen, and no cover over the game slot. I am not liking the textured looking top half. They just needed to do some simple gloss metallics like the DS lites and have a matte finish bottom. Also, if it had the same dimensions as the N3DS XL I would be happy, the controls look cramped like the smaller N3DS model.

I usually like my handhelds plain, but if it didn't already have a n3ds XL and it was 3d, I would get this.

Just like the 2DS, it lacks the 3D feature which most some people treated as a fancy gimmick that just boosts the price.

It's 'stunning' and 'brave', but why not just something legitimately masterful? A N_DS XL that has slots for 3/DS, and GBA. Sure, you can get eshop or backups, but what if you want to play original stuff? ......and maybe a faster processor, GPU, with an OLED, because that would make room for Super Mega Blast New Nintendo 3DS XLO&Espio: shit is a ninja Edition.

On a side note, yes, I want those future LE consoles.

I feel bad for collectors.
You do know that this is meant to be a cheaper model, right?

Besides, if the did something like the 3DS XL Retro, it would probably end up like the Nes Classic.

The cameras are on the bottom of the device. As for the C stick, I'm sure they are using what ever space they can use. No room for a bigger stick. Like, they barely had room for the speakers.

I'd be actually more interested in a New New 3ds XXL. Yes i use the 3d feature of my 3ds.
Me too, but at this point, as I said before, they should just a make a 3DS version of the Switch.

What's wrong with the cover? I don't want to see or touch gloss on a handheld ever again.
