WBFS was originally a partition type that only stored the contents of Wii discs. The library was updated later on to support reading files as if they were WBFS partitions. Those can be put on any type of partition type that your cIOS supports. (i.e.: FAT32, NTFS, ext2)

It's easiest to use just one FAT32 partition. That way it's accessible by all homebrew and loaders. WitGUI uses Wiimm's ISO Tools and should support copying games to your drive in a /wbfs folder. Make sure to check the option to split them at 4GB so they will fit.

Ah, ok, there was my disconnect. Probably another case of me reading old things that aren't true anymore. Thanks! Does formatting it in Fat32 in "32k clusters" still matter? Or nah? Mac doesn't make it very easy to specify the clusters.

ISSUE: Cannot load Ocarina/Codes through USB Loader or Configurable USB Loader successfully on Mario Kart Wii.

Anytime I go online with the codes it either:
  • Allows me to play 1 match without issue and then freezes up with a black screen on the following match. I don't even make past the voting screen.
  • Black screens as the first match starts.

I've tried a few different hooks to see if it changes anything...But, it simply doesn't. I'm not sure what the default hook to use for codes is. I'm finding conflicting information on this. Or do I simply just enable Ocarina and ignore the hook type?

I have the codes in a GCT labeled: RMCE01.gct within the codes folder on the root of the SD card. I'm not entirely sure if maybe my codehandler is causing the issue? I can load up the game and run everything else just fine without the Ocarina or the codes enabled.

Any help is greatly appreciated. :)

Once I have a ripped game finally in WBFS file format, there isn't anything else for me to before I put it on my USB Hard drive, is there?

Hi all, I'm wondering a few things & hopeful someone can help me out.
1) should the emulators be kept on the same device as the ROM's?
or
2) can the emulators themselves (such as FCEUX, SNES9x etc) be placed on a different device than the ROM's?
3) is there any benefit to one setup vs the other?

On my SD card I currently have ALL my emulators, ROM's & Gamecube ISO's.
On my USB device I have my Wii wbfs files

I'm just interested in streamlining things or wondering if there is a "preferred" organizational scheme?

For reference I launch FCEUGX, SNES9XGX & VBAGX as channels. I launch GenplusGX & Wiimednafen thru Homebrew. And I launch Nintendont & USBLoaderGX "forwarders" (they look just like channels but apparently dont take up actual memory on the Wii?) & I think are called "wad" files?

Ha! sorry if these are dumb questions. Getting into modding at 43 is fun but the learning curve is steep.

I didn't realize the "character/vehicle change between matches" code was bannable.
My understanding is that it's not. But it's better to use something such as CTGP Revolution (http://chadsoft.co.uk) with that feature built in, plus some other fun in-game stuff, and 218 custom tracks.

Once I have a ripped game finally in WBFS file format, there isn't anything else for me to before I put it on my USB Hard drive, is there?
When you rip the game, it should already be on the USB drive unless you ripped it on another device. And no, other then making the folder, I don't think so.

New question: What's the best way to handle the fact that the Wii has a tiny internal memory? I moved a lot of my VC games over to my SD, but my SD is only 2 GB. I have read about EmuNAND, which makes it sound like you can run VC games from that + USB Loader GX. But is that the only way?

------------------------------------------------
Previous question has been edited & FIXED :

Seems with Yet Another WAD Manager, the WADs are listed twice, one at 0.0 MB, and secondly at their actual size. So I had to scroll way down the list to see the "real" WADs. Once I did that, things installed great. So, that solved me seeing WADs as 0.0 MB and getting the "ret = -1" error

----
Using Yet another Wad Manger, and I have bunch of n64 Virtual Console WADs in a "wad" folder on the SD card (in root). And WADMAnager's folder is in the apps folder.

My SD card is about 1/3rd empty (so it's pretty full). The wads live on the the SD card, but when I go to load them or install them, they say they are 0 MB file sizes and I get the ret = -1 error code. I also copied them to my USB drive and tried to load them from there. Nothing. Shows the files at 0 MB! Same error!

I already added one or two forwarder wads a few days ago, so I don't know what the issue is. I also downloaded a forwarder or 2 from the home brew browser. Could the mix of both be causing an issue?

And when I go into YAWMM, I disable the NAND question when I load WADManager, since I don't know the answer, but based on my setup I think it should be disabled.

I have 1200 blocks free in memory.

I also set up Priloader after I loaded the first two forwarders/one WAD. Maybe that set something wrong?

Hi there!

I found my old Wii not long ago and, surprise! It's bricked. I came upon this forum while looking for a solution, but I've hit a wall. Any help?

Here's what I can tell you:

- Issue: Wii boots into health & safety screen, but no "Press A button to continue" message appears.

- Bought on release day.
- Soft modded with Zelda hack way back when, I don't remember the original configuration of boot/boot2, I do have a back up of my NAND.
- Successfully used a Gamecube controller to boot into recovery, OS version seems to be 4.2 EU.
- Tried booting with an SD (2 GB in FAT32, well, it's actually a microSD with an adapter, but this shouldn't be an issue, right?) with HackMiiInstallerHBCv12, no use.
- Tried booting from recovery with said SD and files + original SSBB, recovery boots. I can hear the DVD being read, screen goes from "4.2 EU" to black, nothing happens.

Any ideas welcome.

Thanks!!

Replying for future reference, because I found out that using a game with a higher OS update (in my case, I needed 4.3, I got a list of games with their updates here: http://forum.wii-homebrew.com/index.php/Thread/5280-Wii-Games-mit-Systemupdate/ ) in Recovery triggers the update and my Wii booted correctly!

In case anyone sees this: is my Wii still softmodded? Should I update something?

Thanks again!

If I install a VC game from SD to the internal storage using WAD Manager, and THEN to save space on the internal storage I use the Wii's Storage Manager to move the specific VC game/"channel" from Wii to the SD, can I then delete the WAD from the WAD folder, safely?

Yup. You won't be able to download the title from the store again unless you purchased it on the same console but after the ticket is installed you can move it back and forth with SD.

Any idea where that SD version of the VC game actually lives? I had a WAD file for *installing* WADs, but now that I moved a few to the SD, did those go back into the WAD folder, i assume, making it impossible to figure out which is which (if that makes sense?)

They're stored in a folder called /private/wii/title/XXXX where the "XXXX" is the title ID. They're encrypted by the system menu when they're copied so you can't use them on another console. There is a homebrew app called BlueDump that you can use to make WADs out of stuff that's installed on the console.

Can someone explain the directory structure requirements needed to get modern neek2o to boot? I have several backups in usb:/wbfs/ but /games is empty on both my SD and USB. I also have a single emunand in usb:/nands/<name>/. Should this be enough to get uneek+di to boot properly?

Nothing has worked for me so far with three different USB drives, so I'm curious if I'm doing something wrong or if I have terrible luck with incompatible drives.

I've tried building uneek+di via ModMii (r96) and using the packaged version (r96 beta 8.6) from the wiiflow master pack, both without success.

I am experiencing several issues with my soft mod. I have all emulators installed so I can pretty much play any old game I want. However, I want to use emu nand with either usbloadergx or wiiflow, whichever is easier to set up and honestly I've been at it for 5 days and nearly sleepless nights and am still unable to play and have used numerous tutorials. Also, I am able to play most Wii games but no GameCube, which is something I have to be able to do. I've had breakthroughs with both loaders for the emunand but things were never quite right so I keep reading and rebuilding. No matter how hard I search I have some questions that I just can't find. First, usbloadergx will only recognize my usbdrive when I launch from inside MMM. The channel says something along the lines of " can't find usb drive" and it unticks the fourth button "Wii" games from what it shows. This happened after I dumped emunand I don't know if they are related but need to find out. Question 1) how do I uninstall usbloadergx completely so I can reinstall it and launch the forwarder? I tried to manually take it off the SD card but several of the files, the game stamp time and another, won't allow access. Maybe I'm going about it the wrong way and there is a better way I would love to know! 2) what is the absolute, easiest, 100% method I can use to play my wiiware and VC wads and also Wii and GameCube games? Should I start over? I'll do anything at this point that the experts think is best. I have used modmii several times to update everything. Modmii WILL NOT work for making the emunand for sneek it says it can't find an internet connection but everything else downloads fine. 3) on my SD card, in the apps folder, there is a folder d2x cIOS Installer v3.1. that folder is saying it is 402 gb. Inside the folder are 316 files that can't be opened and have crazy names like ", please no" and "per who.sup" and "rohead).(so". What in the world is this file and how do I get rid of it? Also, my SD card is only 2gb! 4) can I just completely redo my SD card put back all the files except this last one in question 3 and the usbloadergx file? 5) and last I promise, I have installed bootmi into boot2, it says it was a success, but it doesn't load into bootmi or have a bootmi launcher in the Homebrew channel. I would like to make a backup but I can't load bootmi.
My soft mod at this time is completely updated through modmii, newest homebrew channel, 4.3u menu, I ran syscheck and the only thing it said I needed was bootmi and HBC. These forums have been so helpful thank you everyone in advance for any input even if you can answer just one or a few questions.
**Update. I have everything working EXCEPT I still cant play GameCube games which is one of my three main reasons for hacking the Wii. I fixed the issues by repairing my SD card, uninstalling and reinstalling the apps I had trouble with. So now, my only question is what is the number one absolute easiest way to play GameCube games on Wii? I've tried dios mios and nintendont without success. With nintendont I get "error 13" it doesn't seem to be able to read my USB cruzer 64 gb flash drive. I followed all guides, I know the GameCube games are ripped correct and that my hard drive is formatted correctly as said in the guides. Very disappointed no one could take a few minutes out to help with the last questions but maybe writing it out inspired me to try another way to fix it
