Ok, I have a n3ds on 11.1. I've followed the guide at 3ds.guide to prepare my SD card. The steps that detail the installation though start with: 1. You should be on 2.1.

Wut? There was nothing mentioned in the guide before then about downgrading... And like blaisdinsd said in the comment before me, the guide states this works on all devices<11.2.

Do I need to downgrade or should I just skip that because it's obsolete info that was not removed when they updated the guide?
https://3ds.guide/
Which downgrade are you referring to? There are 2 downgrades steps, 1 not required if FW <11.0
If it is the 11.0+...
upload_2016-12-7_11-41-5.png

NFIRM Downgrade...

If you are referring to 2.1, that is required, and recently added back. (was outdated, now updated)
Before the past week,There was Optless method, that does not require one to downgrade to 2.1. However, there was a random chance of bricking, and solution not found.
So Optless method was removed.

Ok, sorry. I realized my mistake. I was viewing the guide from my phone and was just scrolling down and not clicking the "get started" button. I have however since followed the guide starting with clicking the "get started" button and got more clear instructions for my device.

Thanks so much for the quick response. Apologies, I'm a pure noob to the 3ds scene. :/

I finished Plailect guide and my o3DS is now updated to 11.2. I had used a old gateway firmware to play before and now moved away from it. I still have some noob questions.

1. Can I still load and play .3ds roms? If so what app do I need to use/install?
2. If no, do I have to convert all my .3ds roms into .cia files?
3. Do I need a buy a bigger card now for all the cia games? I am using a 4GB SD Card.
4. Or can I somehow repurpose my microsd card that was used in my Gateway cart?

Hi all, I've been a member here for 5+ years and I was very active back in the days or the orignal R4, DSTT, Ace3DS, etc. Now everything is all software-based and I'm kinda out-of-the-loop. So please forgive the "noob" questions but I truly am trying to catch myself back up to speed here.

I've got family members with various models of the DS/3DS. I don't know yet what firmware they're all on. I want to mod the systems for xmas for the kids. Will I be able to do it for all of them no matter the firmware version? Is it easy? Let's say I have 4 3DS systems with different firmware versions. Is modding all of them something I can do in a single day? I'm very tech-savvy in general so I can certainly follow a guide. But I'm just wondering:

  • if there are any models/firmwares which CAN'T be modded to run .cia games?
  • if there are any models/firmwares for which the process is much more complicated or that i'll need any special hardware for?
  • in general, how long does it take to get a stock 3DS running the latest firmware version to loading it up with Luma3DS/saltFW and running .cia games?

Much appreciated!

FW<11.0: Win, possible
11.2<FW<11.0: Maybe?
I say 4 hours? It helps if you don't have too many files install in SD card.

Damn, 4 hours for each system? :O Is there any way to streamline the process since I'm doing multiple ones?

Also, when you say "Win, possible" -- does Win means "Yay, good news" or does it mean "Windows"? Just clarifying :D

And what does the "Maybe" mean for FW between 11.0 and 11.2? What's it depend on? I looked through 3ds.guide a bit last night but I'm still trying to absorb everything. Thanks for your quick reply.

For 11.x you need a previously modded system. So you'll need at least one system with 10.7 or less, and start with that one.

Use browserhax. You should be following 3ds.guide. If you are, then provide the exact section and step that is troubling you.

I have a N3DS with A9LH and Luma installed. For the Freeshop/CIA Pokemon Sun/Moon games, Sun crashed on me earlier when I pressed the "Home" button (Before I changed CPU Clock from Clock+L2, to just Clock in Luma Settings) and I had to force system off and restart, has that been known to happen? Thoughts on this appreciated :)

If I have an A9HL O3DS with a DSiware title tied to a NNID, can I use it to get A9HL on multiple 11.0 N3DS systems after performing a NAND backup each time (and obviously once a week)? Or what exactly happens to that DSiWare title after the first system transfer?

The DSiWare game will belong to the console you transferred to. So you can use that console to downgrade another (after a week). You can't use the source console unless you transfer the game back to it.

Thank you, that will work. I'm guessing being it's an O3DS I can't transfer the DSiWare title back either?

You can call Nintendo to transfer the NNID but that means the data won't be transferred (including the DSiWare save). So the console you transfer to (by calling Nintendo) will need to be hacked already so it can load the save again.

Good to know.

Do you happen to know in what state the O3DS would be after performing the system transfer and restoring NAND on it? Is it the same as before just NNIDless? Would I be able to create a new NNID on the O3DS?

The O3DS will be a little confused because it thinks it's got an NNID but the servers disagree. You'll get a lot of errors when you try to use online services. There is a way to remove an NNID without removing the data I believe, so you'd want to search for that (I'm not sure on the details).

So I finally going to get myself a Wii U for xmas, and I am planing on soft modding it as much as possible (HBL, Lodiine etc.) and I am trying to gather as much info as possible, and if possible find myself a comprehensive guide simmilar to Plailect's guide to A9LH. Does anyone know of such a guide? If not, what is your favorite guide/thread?
P.S.: I plan on installing CFW as soon as SALT releases their version for 5.5.1, so I don't want to do anything now that would make that hard or mess with it in any way.
Thanks!

There isn't really a guide like that unfortunately. The scene is evolving too quickly for a guide like that to keep up. Use the Brazilian method first, then look at compiling fw.img so you can install games that don't have both a disk and eShop version, and install DLC etc. Then look at Haxchi to boot the fw.img a bit faster. You'll have to do a lot of searching around, it isn't all in one place.
