I tried getting the US and EU versions from the freeshop. Both hang as soon as you pick a file to play. I uninstalled and tried getting a CIA from a rom site, same exact thing. That leads me to believe its something wrong with my system or setup. Any ideas?
N3DS with LUMA 6.6/A9LH.

Yeah and it seems to be rom specific because the game itself boots fine, only freezing after a new file is selected. Does anyone have a Yoshi's new Island save I could inject with JKSM? Maybe its an issue with there being no save data.

I dont have a ton of other games installed, but all the others I have tried work fine. Xenoblade, SMT4:A, Mario & Luigi Dream Team, Devil Survivor Overclocked and Break Record. All boot just fine.

do you have the n3ds over clock options on? I heard they can cause issues with some games
I have a legit purchase of the game and it does not hang with Clock+L2 enabled. Yea I know, mistakes were made. It does load slow as hell though.

Wish I could help. The game however is not terrible, it's just slow feeling compared to the original and even the DS version.

I would get CIAngel and download the game through that and see if it's any different. I assumed CIAngel and Freeshop both downloaded from Nintendo CDN but who knows.

Worth a try. Money is no object, I might try to pick up a copy today while I'm out. I'll try the legit cart and then dump a copy to CIA. Hey dumb question, where does a dumped CIA file go after you make one with Decrypt9? Found it: SD>Files9>Game9

Assumingly files9 but I have never done it. Everything else you dump on the 3DS goes to files9 when you use decrypt/hourglass9.

Have you ever modified any system titles? Try using FBI to delete the game savefile and extdata if it has.
I'll try that. I mean I'll try just about anything at this point. I think this has become less about actually wanting to play YNI and more about beating this bug.

UPDATE
Dude no shit, the actual cart hangs at the same exact place!

Have you turned on patching in Luma settings? Disable that if so. I also remember animal crossing not working on my moms 3DS and I had to update luma for it to work. No idea why. I moved her from emunand to sysnand A9LH and it solved everything.

I tried messing around with all sorts of LUMA settings. Nothing changed.

I got out my old o3DS/Gateway and booted into Gateway Classic mode which I think it just Emunand with gamecart support. I got YnI to boot there and played fine. When I moved the cart over to my N3DS-A9LH setup, the game needed to create Extdata again, and there was no save file attached to the game. Still hung at file selection.

Thats really odd. Do you have a nand backup? You could backup your current nand and then flash a backup and see if it works. If it did you would know if something in the nand is corrupted.

This does not happen to me, I have an USA dump of yoshi's new island and the savefile was created back when i had RxTools. Let me reinitialize it's save data and try to recreate the bug.
