So I re did the mod and shorten all the wires, there are about 30% shorter. Still get the same read speed and can't write back to the nand I get an i/o error. I'm thinking it's either windows or the anker memory card reader.

Ok, so I just ditched the usb ports, i guess my connections to the female one were shit, as i just went from Motherboard straight to SD and it worked!
Currently dumping the current firmware to test it, getting 5mb/s, pretty happy about this.

If you use Anker card reader on N3DS/N3DS XL, you must reduce the length of wires drastically.
The final length of your wires don't must exceded 19 cm from your motherboard to the SD card reader to be sure Anker card reader gets the signal.
Sure you can do testing by reducing gradually but it will save you time and you will be fixed quickly.

If you can read, but not write, have you unlocked the SD card (the little plastic tab) if it fell off, just tape it shut

Is there another connection for CMD as mine has lifted due to me catching the wire with my hand and pulled the 3ds away from the SD card while connected.

just follow the trace along, there is another pad further down the line but its smaller, be more careful this time, and also make sure it has only lifted the pad and not split the trace or you'll need to do some trace repair too

Is this underneath the board or on top and yes I will be more careful, it was late

This mod is driving me nuts, doing the o3DSXL btw

Here's pics of the mod, its consistently booting to the blue screen, and i have a compatible SD reader but its just not working, its not showing up on my computer.

The mod is messy as all fuck, should i just restart it?

Here's the album

When i plug the SD reader in, its constantly makes the windows plugged in and then unplugged noises, which i think is good? But no drive shows up

So i completely rewired the mod, still the same result, boots into blue screen, but does not read on my computer
Using the Transcend SD reader TS-RDP5K
Move your ground wire. Solder it to a point for a shield...

assuming its a n3DS XL it would be here^.......but its pretty much the same on the normal n3DS (just follow the trace from the normal CMD point)

Sorry I should have been more specific, it is a O3DS XL is it pretty much the same
nope, the o3DS XL doesnt have any sort of traceable trace it just goes under the nand chip....you will probably have to try exposing the trace and soldering directly to that (ps this thread is really just meant to be about nand modding the n3DS/n3DS XL :P)

You're extremely lucky if you didn't brick. I did that to a clk pad on my original N3DS. Tried using a silver pen to repair it, with no luck. It's good for spare parts only now, I'm afraid :(

The little thing fell off, I have tape around the card to hold it together. Is that what you mean by tape it shut?

Do you recommend a different reader?

he means if you have lost the card lock tab make sure you have tape or something over that area so the reader wont open it as read only

Ok I don't think the tape is covering that part, I never knew how that thing works.
basically the tab hits a switch inside the SD reader to let the reader know if the SD card is not locked, many people wrongly assume that its not connected to anything inside the SD card so its pointless, but if that area isn't covered the switch in the reader will not be hit and the card will be read only

That worked, I was able to write my old backup I did with gateway. I only get a half a MB a second but it works! Just happy my mod worked.
