No modern game can be played with that controller. It either has to come with a proper controller or else its basically an over-glorified emulator.
If you are fast enough, you could binary encode any kind of command with that button, even imaginary analog sticks positions. Just speak Morse with the console, sure it would be enjoyable. /s

I don't see the problem, why don't you just map all the buttons to the one button? Problem solved. /s

Atari joystick has more buttons than people that are willing to buy this

TBH that joystick, the Atari 2600 joystick in general, brings me back to my early days, when I used it to play on my C64.

And one thing I really hated is all those games that made you push the stick forward to jump, it was such a PoS kind of control input, it was hard to move precisely left or right while you "jumped" and it made platforming a PITA.

They _should_ have mapped jump to that one button... (ranting like a kid, I know)

They originally advertised modern games but now they're advertising modern indie games because they know no big developer would try to make games for this thing.

Also, it runs Linux, you can buy Atari USB joysticks online, so the only thing that's going for this console is the look of it
Kind of like the Super Nintendo classic but worse

The Super Nintendo Classic wasn't a 300 dollar emulation box, either, that's just sad.

The Super Nintendo classic had a lot going for it because of its nice user interface and great selection of games. The Atari 2600.... had some pretty good games, but by today's standards, you better hope they have some good modern ones too

But really, when the only "spec" you know is it runs "Linux" (who know... Raspbian?), the Raspberry Pi in a wooden case scenario sounds way too likely... I hope it at least is a Raspi3.

Atari needs to be aiming for the older demographic to be able to sell well. But it seems like they're trying to aim for the younger demographic as well by offering "modern games"
If they were to sell this only based on Nostalgia, they sure are doing it wrong.
Perhaps they should better sell "wooden" mod cases for PS4 and sell that to nostalgic fans, it seems clear they put all their effort into the case, so why bother with the internals if that is not their thing.

And this is exactly why this console will fail.
